Big island info

So I am attempting to make
It to big island aug 4 for a funeral and ash dispersal of my step- grandfather. Him and my biological grandfather both naturally(more or less) passed last week. Anyways won't be there to long but if you could do one thing on big island what would it be?

You'd be surprised, much of Saddle Road has been neutered. They paved an entire new section that is essentially a long straight now, it's kinda sad. Although there are some twisty bits on the Kona and Hil sides still, the middle is just a big long boring highway. I miss old saddle road, it was literally like a tarmac rally stage.

Phil, if you can only do one thing: Volcano.

yeah it's been a few years since I have been there (training at PTA). I know saddle back is generally straight, I guess I was more referring to downhill portion into Hilo and the uphill portion coming from Kona. or vice versa!

I miss that old section around Pohakuloa with the huge hills where you could catch air!

sure

I think it was like 10 years ago, I chased a convoy down one of the dirt roads at night in the training area with a Humvee. I was doing like 30 to 40 mph in black out mode while wearing night vision googles. fun times!
