Better Uppipe and Downpipe?

Okay I got a noob question for you guys, but I was just wondering what you guys in Oahu thought. Which is the better uppipe and downpipe? I got an 05 WRX and I was thinking about getting either the PDE or the Helix. I hear good and bad things about both. The PDE won't set off my chech engine light, but has a design similar to the HKS which some say is crappy. The Helix on the other hand needs the cel fix, which I know nothing about, is it hard to put on, will it harm the car, will it solve the check engine light issue? Which setup would go well with a Blitz Nur Spec R catback? Question questions, who knew being a noob was so hard! Thanks in advance for the help guys!

A lot of guys have the PDE and a lot of guys got the Helix. I got the PDE. THere's really nothing wrong with either. A big plus to the Helix though is its price. I think it's like $125 less than a new PDE. I say go with the Helix since you're thinking about gettin the Blitz Nur-Spec so your exhaust will be a full 3".

I have never had any problems with PDE stuff.
Helix on the other had is a fairly new company and they mimic other companies products. They have had some fitment issues in the begining and from what I can recall they still have very small amounts still
PDE design is the orignial design and the HKS is the copy. the MAJOR difference between the two is that PDE has a "bellmouth" design where as the HKS pipe does not. The PDE has a built in CEL defeat bung that is gaurenteed by PDE not to throw a CEL and if you do then something may be wrong with the 02 sensor itself or you're looking at wrong 02 sensor while trouble shooting the problem. PDE also tappers down and WILL connect nicely to the Blitz Nur Spec R exhaust (Cat-back) since the Nur Spec R is ment to connect to a STOCK downpipe (PDE is ment to connect to stock cat-back). HKS on the other hand doesn't have CEL defeat (you have to cut your 02 sensor wire and splice in a CEL eliminator) and it has a 3" pipe design that will NOT mount as nicely to your Blitz exhaust.
I speak from experience since I've owned BOTH those pipes you're talking about. both have their pros and cons but what product doesn't. I say do MORE research and get the one that YOU like and can afford!
Helix on the other hand (i've installed a few of the earlier ones) had fitment issues and the piping of the entire exhaust system was to tight after installing this pipe and wouldn't correctly connect to every bracket for the exhaust. i think that they might have changed their design slightly due to many customer complaints.
Do more reserach!

^^^Yeah Helix has been changing their design.
Hoppie has a new UP and I have an old one...they look drastically different. As far as I could tell the new one has a different Flex section and the studs for the turbo side can be "reversed" (the old ones were too long and interfered with large bellmouth DPs).
Anyways, either way you go...you'll be happy. Just remember that once you change that damn UP you will NEVER want to do it again so get a good one! Oh and +1 for teh PDE because it matches up with the exhaust and the bracket.

I just installed my Helix up and downpipes. Btw, I have the latest batch of Helix products. The uppipe studs perfectly clears the bellmouth. Also the uppipe doesn't need a cel fix and hasn't set off a cel either. My Helix dp needed a cel fix but it comes with it and gaskets as well from Gruppe-s.com. So far no problems, just great hp gain and much better response. I have it mated to a stock midpipe with Blitz racing Nur spec and its loud but imo not too loud. If you get the catback it may be TOO LOUD.
This might help you find a dp and up...and other things you are looking for

I also agree with Jon. I also had a PDE and had no issues except for one that I thought was being caused by the DP but it turned out it was not. I think you'll be safe with either of them the Helix just look better and thats about it..
