I know there's a Test N Tune autocross event on February 16 and 17 (if I remember correctly).
I'll be there on Saturday in the BMW though, and not the Subaru.
Usually, I just send Curtis or Amy a check ($40 for the TnT) for pre-registration.
I've never been to an actual SCCA autocross day since those are always on Sundays, and that's a busy work day for me.

You will need a helmet (or you gotta wear the loan-me-helmets ).
You will need to get your car inspected when you get there to make sure your car is safe to autox.
Ummmm... someone chime in if I'm forgetting something or if there's an earlier date in January.
I forgot what the website for the Hawaii SCCA was.

I've been autocrossing since the mid 80s with Shiroikage.

Don't need to do anything to the car other than empty it out of loose items and put a little extra air in the tires. Leave the ego at home. You'll quickly find out that you aren't as good a driver as you think you are. You'll find much less powerful cars going much quicker. It's 90% driver and 10% car.

Just have fun.

Here ya go. I would say the same as everyone above. I have been out there for a bit now. It is fun and addicting. Bring a pair of closed toe shoes, a helmet snell rated 2000 i think is the most current, and a check or a checkbook. Show up 1/20/08 bfore 7:00 am to try to get on the list at the gate to register. You may want to bring a cooler for drinks and lunch. Most of all bring yourself and an open mind. It's fun man, lots and lots of fun.

Novice drivers can have instructors or more experienced drivers for ride-alongs so they can provide feedback.

No shame. Take advantage of of the advice from more experienced drivers.

At our last Solo, I was told to not square off corners in my Miata, but rather keep momentum and slow the steering input and be gentle on corner entry. I took the advice and shaved off over 3 seconds on my run.

Two things:

1. You can never stop learning to improve your driving.

2. There is always a better driver than you.

Werd, when I came back after 20 years away, I thought I could be instantly competitive, boy was I wrong...four DNFs, quite an inauspicious return Because our courses are fairly tight, its not much about the power, but they are fun nontheless. There are waay faster cars than our STis with much less power: Miatas, Minis, there are even a couple of late model stock Corollas right there with my STU class STi, so it is definitely the driver. Not to toot my own horn, well, actually I'd like to toot, but I borrowed a bone stock automatic Imprezza 2.5RS, slapped my STi wheels & tires and took out some "faster" cars...that it in itself was fun. So come out and meet the Subaru contingent as well as all the other racers and have fun, hope to see there, as well as tougenoob who now has my STi suspension.

That's so true. First time I went and tried it... my times were 10+ seconds over the fast guys' times. But, keeping an open mind helps you learn a lot quicker. I've only been to it twice and I've improved those times by over 5 seconds and I still have A LOT MORE to learn! Some of you guys may remember me as the one that went into the last corner too quickly, understeered, and hit the laser timer at the end while cracking my $2500 CF lip. After that, I learned about straight-line braking pretty quickly. lol. It's all about just getting in there, keep on doing it, and learning as you go.

My suggestion: let one of your instructors drive your car. You can then see where your level is at and how much more you can improve. I still can't get within 3 seconds of my instructor's time. Plus, it's real cool seeing how fast your car is capable of.

my advise is to be there before 7:00 am. if the pre-reg fills up, there is sometimes a line at the gate before we open. we have had the walk-up registration fill up very quickly where people who showed up later were not able to register.

keep an open mind, have fun, and don't get discouraged if your slower than the regulars. it takes time and experience to get faster. also, if you get an instructor, don't be afraid to ask questions. most of the instructors have been autoxing for years and are top drivers.

also, what mods do you have on your car? by looking up what class you'll be in really helps the people at the morning gate....

I've tried to encourage fella suby's into auto x, it's really fun- you really learn what your ride is capable of or what needs to be improve on your car or driving skills....

you watch vids of it or watch it in person, but man nothing like being inside the car.....Warren, you should come out....but like everyone stated, keep an open mind and you should be ok...
