Just got back from the Big Island...

The Saddle Road on the way up to Mauna Kea is awesome! It's a hilly, windy road in very good shape...abit narrow but I wished I had my STI...that would be a fun cruise!

Went up to the top...with a Mitsubishi Montero and 4 passengers, near the top, I had to give it full throttle just to get it to go 15mph! There is very little 02 up there for the motor...

Have fun!

I am down... I love that road to 9000' from the saddle turnoff. Nice pavement, great views, and a wheezing, gasping, out-of-breath VF-39 by 9000'. Lets not forget glowing brakes on the way down.

Which way are you going up the Saddle? I'm assuming from Hilo since you'll be working on your house in Keaau.. I'm in Waimea and usually take the saddle from upper road... But anyways....

I AM DOWN.

Lets see if we can get some of the other big island guys in... phone call tyme

i think we might have to stop at the 9k mark. supposedly kids are not recommended any higher? i remember back in the 80's my parents took me up there no problem.

we are planning to go early Saturday morning- i'll be bringing some i-club stickers and goodies for you guys- (well whoever we run into) and then hitting Kona for the famous sunset.

btw, any of you guys ever heard of that swimming pond near volcano? i may be mixed up on location, but either way we will be driving a 4WD tacoma that weekend-

Smile

SOUNDS GOOD.

I haven't taken the kid past 9K myself. And the pavement stops there.. so 9K is super.. I'm not sure of the swimming pond near Volcano. There are some hot pools in Puna about 40 minutes from Volcano... So..

Looks like starting in Hilo early in the am. . . . Sounds good.. . pm me if you want to! Still seeing who's available that day. You'll have at least a couple of guys for sure...

Oh dude.. that would be unreal... I put the old bfgoodies on the STi thinking of this cruise... And I talked to some folks about the 9000ft thing and kids. What I am told is that if they can talk, and therefore tell you if they're feeling "off", then you're ok to bring em up.

Just a thought..
