I'm currently sourcing parts for a Trex 450, no prior experience though =/

My coworker flies his planes every Sunday down Kailua side. He says planes are much easier to control. You have a flight simulator?? I think that helps

ooh - you're really going to want to train on a counter-rotor heli (dual set of blades) or a sim before you fly a 450, thought i hear they're more stable due to size; this blade SR is a 200 or something, seems twitchy...

i dont have a flight sim, looking to set one up, but i think the issue with my bird is the trims are all off somehow - even with transmitter trim it continues to be very twitchy and drift alot (could be the blades too)... I havent flown planes much, i don't have any here either... I went to that flight spot in kailua (off kapaa quarry rd) on saturday and sunday - amazing planes for sure (>5' wingspans) but no heli's when i went...

all i'd like is for someone who flies often to test mine out and tell me if it's just me or if the heli's not trimmed right.. ive got some good flight time with a MCX and can manuver it quite well fwiw.

Test in in an enclosed area like a garage or large living room or other area with little or no wind to zero the trim. You can fly in wind but it looks like it will be twitchy depending on the gusts.

You picked up one helluva hard hobby.
Tried it a few times, decided wrecking all the time wasn't for me.

hahaha, I just showed this to my coworker, he says he thinks he knows you. I'll just say he's a skater. Oh, and he said to add, it's 9ft+ wingspans

Why did I open this thread? I do NOT need another expensive hobby.

I had an electric heli when I was younger. One of the parts on te main blades was machined like crap and broke, then the replacemtn broke, and then I gave up on it. From what I heard though helis were finicky little things to control.

well thats the thing - i initially was just testing in my apartment and then later in the garage; i'll try and make a video next time but man, it just strafes wildly, and when i couter it with some oppo it tries to go 3D...then blades to ground and game over lol

DO IT! there are a good number of heli's for sale online and on CL, entry level RTF prices these days are sub 200, and heck, if you just want a laid back coax to fly, theyre even less...

you should invest in a flight simulator like realflight. You"ll will save a lot of money from not crashing. Once i crash my trex and it cost me over 250 in parts.

I'm not usually an "entry level" kind of guy, but I may push myself (if I decide to get back into the hobby) to stick to something more affordable. I'm not sure if I'd got Heli or plane though. I've done boats and don't go to the water that much anymore, and cars bore me because you need a lot of open ground. Planes need runway and I'm assuming you can't necessarily fly them at your local park.

i know what you mean - my first wreck (right out of the box) was around $30 and it was just blades and a main gear... i learned to hit up ebay in advanced and ordered 6 sets of blades and two of everything else... the thing about sims though is the heli's are mechanically trimmed out already - i think my heli needs some linkage work, i plan on it this weekend. Also I've flown a couple sims, albeit for a few minutes apiece but i'm fairly dexterous at those

yeah im with you - i dont like entry level either because i'd rather have the tweakability of a pro device right off the bat... i was planning to get a boat and run it at ala moana / random lagoons, but i dont know where it's perhaps 'legal' or not... i brought my xray touring chassis with me for drifting, only used it twice so far lol
