Anybody had their battery die on them?

Anybody have to change their battery in the Scoob because of natural causes yet? (i.e. usage, not having left accessories/headilghts on, etc.)

I've got ~20k on my 1 1/2 year old WRX and I'm wondering when I should be thinking about a new battery.

Some Lexus' (probably mostly due to the fact that they were hardly driven by their septagenarian owners) would need batteries in ~1-1.5 years and 15-20k miles.

I live in town and drive constantly in small spurts downtown to client offices so the car doesn't get to do much freeway driving (high speed cruising really lengthens the life cycle of your battery).

I'm 40+ and stock battery is still working

I think if you maintain the water level inside the battery it should be ok... I to am also thinking about getting an optima battery when mine finally goes

I've accidentally drained it a few times and needed a jump, but I've never thought about replacing it.

Mine went out

in a year. I got a Delco 6year battery under warranty. I'll be getting a new light battery soon, if anyone's interested in my old one. It's 11 months old.

I think most oem batteries have a lifespan of 2-3 yrs.....if the water level is maintained. If you've needed a jump do to low water levels that can dramatically affect its lifespan. Oem batteries usually suck (except for mines, which is running strong even with my stereo but than again......its only been 9 months)

sorry to bring this up...

I think it might be time for me to replace my battery since I've been having power issues... I've kept the water levels to the right place and still I have problems...

Peaty stated on scoobymods that you shouldn't buy deep cycle batteries... why is that?

He did a really good write up on it:

my guess is that the author thinks deep cycles aren't made for cars or that he thinks the average person looking at buying a new battery doesn't need a deep cycle. i've been using a deep cycle optima yellow top since 3 months after getting my car. so pretty much 2 years now with no problems. the only thing is that it weighs alittle less than 3 times more than the stock battery. and since the location is all the way up front left it will screw up your weight distribution if you are into auto-x.

my take on the deep cycles is that if you don't tax your system with high powered output items like a sound system or aux lighting you don't need it. but if your car sits for long periods of down time like 3-5 weeks b/c you go on trips or it isn't your daily driver you might look at a deep cycle. also if you like to tailgate and play your sounds with your car off deep cycle is the way to go which is what i got mine for.

i also got the battery for life. supposedly it last up to 10 years if not heavily taxed constantly. and on average a new battery (after the stock dies in 2 years) will last 4-5 years so pretty much i will earn my money back (paid $125 from my friend who works for servco). and i don't have have to run around trying to replace a dead battery when they die (might be busy with something important).
