Awww crap, I just dropped it off this morning at the Sony service center in Mapunapuna. Thanks for the offer though. And I would have thrown in at least a bag of peanuts to go with the crown.

I might need to ask you about that. I just ordered a Dell XPS 420 system & of course it comes with Vista. Based only on hearsay, I was going to look into unloading it & installing XP instead.

My Vaio's HD was bad. Not sure if I'll replace it or not.

Ignore all the bandwagon Vista haters. It has been the most rock solid Windows OS I've ever period and I'm an IT Manager whose office uses nothing but OSX and Vista x86/x64. I've been using Vista x64 since RC2(September 2006).

Definitely stay away from XPS systems. They are a bunch of crap. We have 2 XPS 720's fully loaded for $2800 and even our iMac 24" 3.06ghz beat them in EVERY benchmark there is. Even Windows Experience Index lists it as 5.6 on the iMac vs the 4.9 on the XPS 720. The problem lies in their ridiculously slow CAS latency DDR2 800MHZ ram.

Sorry Jess, not to mean any offense, but Windows Vista is NOT built off of XP. It was built off the Windows Server 2003 Kernel which stability wise is vastly more superior. The only thing relevant from WinServer 2003 to XP was XP's security features. If Vista was built off the "XP" platform, then you would not have driver differences and program compatibility differences would you?

That's great to know. I'll just have to give it a try for myself.

Roh-roh! Hopefully it will suffice my needs. My Vaio had only like 1gb of ram, so hopefully this system (4gb) will seem ultra-quick.

no offense taken you just taught me something new. as a matter fact i was told it was a mixture of what you said above with the impression it leaned more towards XP. as far as bandwagon haters on vista I may be on it but i have my reasoning. probably the #1 reason is the Army isn't running it yet. till they get it I want dive head first into just yet. reason being i will get it free and have unlimited support and the Army will send me for training on it.

No doubt, I would highly recommend XP for military use. No sense in spending extra that could go into other logistical things and always need to stay with the tried and true operating systems that present no problems. The Army still uses some DOS based systems such as for logistic bidding so Vista is not a viable choice for them.
