However unlikely.. It could be a piece of annoyance-ware like many adware programs.
IE: lycos search bar, cool search bar, etc
You can try running adaware by lavasoft to try and correct the problem. If it doesn't correct it run a search on microsoft for the problem. It may be a simple patch.

go to the homepage of Google, lycos, etc. whatever you are using and set as homepage. There should be a button on their homepage that does it for you. But everytime you are at your home page and you try to clear your browser, which I do quite often, just hit home at the top and it should bring back your search browser.
