4WD dyno...
anyone know any speed shops that are considering buying one? if so i think it would be cool to somehow find a way to help that business aleviate the costs somehow- i think the last $ i heard was in the ballpark of 75 g's.
i think it would be cool if we could seek donations and in turn get discounts for ourselves when we wanna use it.
seems like a stupid idea- but i really would like to see it happen here-

I say its one of the best ideas brought fourth to the Ohana I-club. Right on Gdogg, now its time to implement your idea and brain storm. This thread should focus on how we can make some $$$ cash money to get a local business to jump on the band wagon. That way we could have some were we could do installs and test performance and basically hangout. Keep us from wasting gas. Whats up who thinks it a great idea, give it up to Gdogg.

Already been discussed
This idea has and was brought up many times some guys even went a talked to Fraid who owns Speed Gear it is just not worth it for them to bring one in. All these people say they would bring their car down but we all know there is more talk on here than action plus he or they would have to hire somebody that knew how to tune our cars and others just not economicly feasible...it would take them to long to recoup their money..

our sales have not died down- subaru numbers are going up- and very steadily.
if speed gear doesn't get one then whoever does should do well. and i'm sure there are some other guys with awd to make use of it.
just another wishlist...

yah this has been brought up a few times in the past, and the awd dyno is just to much for anyone to afford. the shop would need every suby owner to go in constantly to make up for the big debt they would get.
aside from i club, there would be the 5 evos
and a couple hardcore dsm guys? i don't think that's enough people.
what we need is someone to take one for the team and pick one up off of ebay.
i nominate i thug to take the job.

I think it'd work if someone had the resources and staying power to buy and maintain it! So, it'd have to be a shop with a lot of space so as not to take up too high of a percentage of their bay area.
I haven't really seen any large tuners around here....maybe there's some in PC, Aiea or whatever that would be better than the guys in town.
The 4 wheel dyno will still dyno 2wd cars right? What's the difference in cost? If it's not too much then I wouldn't think it would be a bad investment to corner the Subaru, Mitsu (Evo and GSX) etc. markets...especially since other makes are planning on bringing awd cars to the market too. You also have to consider that most of us here are looking into ecutek, utec etc. so there'd have to be someone willing to corner the market on the tuning of those pieces...all it would take is one shop owner willing to send his guy up to the different places for training and voila...yea yea I know it's harder said then done.

Well,
when a thread came up for a tuner that would do aftermarket ECU tunes at the track turned up less than five people willing, it was obvious an AWD dyno here wouldn't break even, much less make money. In addition to the dyno, the tuning shop has to have a knowledgable tuner. Not cheap. Hyper Sports can convert our cars to FWD or RWD (can't remember which) for tuning purposes. Not sure how good they are though. My $0.02, mileage varies.

I don't know if y'all realize this, but a good road tune is arguably better than a dyno tune.
If a few of the UTEC dudes continue with their learning, they may find theirselves some highly sought after commodities.
Of course, it wouldn't hurt if someone were to buy the forthcoming tunable ECUTEK, someone else bought the AEM, someone else the 'self-tune' Element ECU (aka hydra nemesis, standalone I believe.).... That's all the tunable's I can think of. This way that smart tuner guy who is currently evolving would have more to practice on.
This was always my hope when I was there.

A 4WD dyno wouldn't make it here. Not enough people serious about tuning. I dunno if any of you used a dyno before but I used to go to Steve at Dyno-Jet Hawaii to tune my MR-2. He closed up shop a few years back even though most of the DSM and Mustang folks used him exclusively. I know those two groups do a lot more tuning than I-club. In addition I organized a dyno-day for the MR-2 group and got about 9 cars there. Everyone had fun but I don't know of a single person that has been back to a dyno in the past 3 years since.

like i said before, i thought about opening up an awd dyno down here on oahu. when i made inquires about it, i got quoted about 60g's just for the dyno alone. also gotta figure shipping, rent and so forth.. for me to invest into this would take me a long time to payy off the loan... i was also considering building a new track somewhere... im just thinking of things that hawaii dont have and what not..." hey it could happen!"

thank you myron-
the way i look at it is from a marketing point of view-
for someone to create a certain market is not easy... may even seem
crazy to most-
who knows... maybe one day i will own a hillside like i always dreamed...
if so you can guarantee that it will have all that we mentioned
maybe when the house gets sold and after all is said and done... we'll talk
