2014 Subaru Forester First Drive
According to this we should be getting a 6speed MT in the xt model and a 8 speed cvt in the auto!

My understanding is a CVT means constant variable transmission meaning it never shifts. I had a 2011 Sentra with the CVT and it would never shift, just rev up and lower down RPM's as needed. Kinda confused as to the 8 speed CVT concept.Originally Posted by shaggadelic

It means that the CVT has "simulated" shift points, so that it feels like a regular automatic. I recently drove the new Honda Accord with a CVT set up like this and was honestly surprised at how much it felt like a regular auto.Originally Posted by WRX~Mike

Oh, ok that makes sense. I hated that CVT transmission that I had. Sounds like the damn thing wanted to blow up every time I tried to get on the freeway.Originally Posted by dozenutts

That's looks like a straight copy of a RAV4 (or may be an RDX?). Subaru is becoming Toyota; take of the badges and you can't tell the difference. * grumble grumble *

I know how good Subaru engineering is, but I still wonder about getting rid of the hood scoop and just "funneling" the air from the grill to the intercooler.

The car I'll have in my driveway in the next month or 2 to replace my DD has an 8-speed CVT and is terrible on gas. Originally Posted by 831subaru
