Just b/c you run open source does not mean your a tuner or plan on tuning your car, its just another form of EM. I don't know where this idea comes from b/c every EM gives you the ability to alter your maps but at a certain cost...just like guys here with super expensive coil-overs that never tack their cars or push them to the limit that you would need such a expensive system. Now there's no point on buying something like that if your not going to use it or need it is what I'm getting at...but its your money so spend how you please

I forgot to mention I run an Open Source Stage 2 Map in my car.

The total cost of my tune was buying the guy that had the cable and software lunch.

So even though my tune is not a dyno tune I still own all of you in terms of cost

Anyways, more money for **** and gimp masks.

i guess i won't be getting an exhaust anytime soon. So much work to get it tuned, and pretty expensive getting it locally. Oh well, it was just gonna be for sound anyways.

Anyone with an 09 know how much work is needed to get 300hp to the wheel?

I would think 300hp is pretty tame and won't kill my gas mileage.

bro running a cat-back with out a tune will be fine. Did you get a new map from subaru after u bought the car? I read somewhere that the 09 wrx had issues with the factory tune but dont quote me on that.

Go custom exhaust. I love mine. And yea no need tune if you just getting a catback, hell if you only want sound get a axle back.

300awhp is not hard at all apparently. I've been seeing people with stage2 hit those numbers.

$400 open soruce tune > ap($695) + paying $200 for protune

ontop of that how many car have blown up or close to it since the protune????? pulling -9 degree's timeing on my friends sti on protune equals FAIL!!

also i will make this in bold and Jon (infek will agree as most will)

IF YOU WANT A WARRANTY DON'T MOD YOUR CAR UNLESS IT PARTS FROM SUBARU!!!! YOU GOTTA PAY TO PLAY!!!! BY MODDING YOUR CAR AND SOMETHING BREAKING AND TAKING OFF THE PARTS AND PUTTING IT BACK TO STOCK TO GET SUBARU TO COVER YOUR WARRANTY IS FRAUD!!!!

so yes if your tune your car your ecu will no longer have a warrnty since it is not a factory tune any more. if you want the exhaust note get it from subaru and make sur it is for that car and a subaru item

with the spt catback you will be fine it is made to work with your car thats why you can get a warranty on the item from subaru

Steak,
To be brutally honest, you cannot have gas mileage and power in an equation. I speak of this from experience. I own a wrx that makes sufficent power, and the tune actually increased gas mileage. When i was hypermiling my wrx, i was getting 23-25 mpg (that's with many advanced hypermiling techniques). An now on to my point. My second car (toyota yaris) , which i drive daily, gets 39 mpg average over one years worth of driving. I won't get into the details of hypermiling on a subaru forum, but you get the idea.
You can't have both. If I were to go FI (forced induction) on the Yaris, per the results of other members, i'd get 24-27 mpg or so. That's just about where I'd be if I daily drove the wrx.
So my point here is that not everyone has the ability to drive 2 cars. And for me each has it's own separate purpose. But as far as a daily driven car to make power and get high F.E. (fuel efficiency, ie gas mileage),
get another car. You won't be getting more than 28 mpg in a wrx, let alone an sti. If you want to make power, keep the wrx. If you want F.E. and power, look into something not AWD.

i know you all think it'll be a waste but I'm pretty sure I'm going to keep the car completely bone stock. I'm plenty happy with the power I'm getting now because I just came from an automatic celica.

Nah bro, if you want to keep your warranty in tact, more power to you man. I wish I could control myself and keep my car stock! I'm kinda getting to the point where I'm getting tired of driving around a modified car myself, but too late now!

I'd go for the SPT exhaust as well. Keep your warranty, sounds great.

We've all been there before lol.

"Nah it makes enough power stock and it's just a DD. Stock is perfect I won't do mods".

Then temptation bites and you get one thing, then that thing leads to another. Just a big snowball. I mean if you can fight the temptation and keep it stock then damn you da man. But sooner or later it'll come knocking at your front door, maybe not even a knock it might just bust it down.

Agreed. There's some snobby people that will tell you "oh you gotta get a tune!" but in reality you don't have to really get tuned until you upgrade turbo/injectors/fuel pump. Simple bolt-ons like Downpipe and Catback don't NEED a tune...a tune will just get you the maximum benefit.
