a few questions you might want to ask
-is the JDM model 2.0 or 2.5?
-JDM model will more than likely have a higher red line, can the USDM model handle it?
-and you more than likely have to tune it for a lower octane considering Japan runs like what 95/96 these?

1) The STI here is 2.0 liters and,
2) has an 8000rpm redline,
3) the HighOctane used here is 95 octane on a US rating scale.
I'm not sure if it's a straight swap as far as wiring goes. I'd suspect that it would be.
However, the JDM STIs run a really aggressive AVCS curve, and they have more advance that they can run on the cams (we're 20 and they're 40 I believe) which will ultimately affect the detonation threshold. You could also run the JDM tables on the USDM ECU (the tables that do transfer), but no one does that because like everyone's said, the octane rating's are different.
AVCS determines the dynamic compression, and if that table is different because the VE is set for the 2.0, and it means that the timing and fuel tables have to be drastically different as well.
So in short, you dont need the jdm ecu to run a JDM timing advance and fuel settings. You can do that through a reflash.
