rubbing against the transmission or the transmission mount? My Invidia will rest against the mount unless I pull it just a little bit to the drivers side using the sliding bracket at the rear of the downpipe. I had to hold it away from the mount when I tightened the bolt. I have about a 1/4 inch of clearance now and it doesn't rattle anymore.

My buddy with an 06 is having the same problem. It's rattling against the transmission crossmember. From what I saw, there wasn't any damage being caused by the rattling. We're going to take it off sometime this week and do something with the bracket on the transmission that the dp connects to...hopefully that will solve the problem. I'll post up my results, but it looks like this is going to be a widespread problem.

see, it doesn't have to do with the hangers. When the downpipe's bracket is attached to the bracket on the transmission right near the transmission crossmember, it only has literally about .5" of space between the downpipe and the metal. When the engine is under load, specially reverse, it torques the engine upwards so that the DP goes against the metal. Once the clutch is let out, the engine vibrates and rattles the DP against it. Therefore, it would be something have to do with the positioning of that bracket...

If left...sooner or later I think Forrest will have a nice little hole in the DP......

Does anyone know of a different crossmember that may provide a little more room? the STI crossmember?

It doesn't have anything to do with the crossmember. The best way of solving the problem is by removing the DP, and bending the bracket that it attaches to about half way down on the transmission. That bracket for some reason is father to the passenger side than the 04-05, thereby causing the DP to be over about .5-1" more. Give it a little persuasion and it'll work out (=

so far so good

I undid the downpipe from the cat-back and also undid the bolt of the bracket on teh downpipe. Once that was done I moved, just by pulling very lightly as to not mess up the turbo, the bracket and since Saturday its been fine. I am not sure if I tightened it more, or less, or actually moved the bracket a little, but it worked.

Sorry for the not so precise answer, but all I know is I have not heard the sound since I did that.

Sounds about right, the fitment is very tight on the downpipes, the V3 more so as the pipe had to be moved slightly for WG clearance but can be solved by repositining and re-tightening the bolts. That said it's important to check for clearance before tightening everything back down. You will want to crank down the bracket bolt first before you tighten the rest. Keep in mind you're going from a stock downpipe to 76mm, it's a tighter fit.

Cheers,

Gary

Hey guys,

Just saw this thread so sorry for the dealy in response. We'd recommend that you install the DP in the following way:

1) Tighten the DP to Turbo bolts half way down.
2) Tighten the DP to Midpipe bolts half way down.
3) Make sure there is adequate clearance between the tranny and the DP.
4) Repeat steps 1-3.

This should ensure that the DP does not hit the tranny. Sorry for the inconvenience. Please feel free to contact us if you have any further problems.

Thanks,

Geoff

Thanks for the update Geoff. If this doesn't solve the problem though...any possibility of returning the dp? I just got mine last friday...and plan to get it re-installed per your instructions above later this week.

Hey Steven,

Yes, if the DP doesn't fit correctly, you can definitely return. This should hopefully fix the problem though.

Thanks,

Geoff
