New Car Audio
Hello,
Last weekend I had replaced my front door speakers in my 2008 wagon. Here are some pictures of the speakers that came out. They are super cheap speakers. I didn't have the premium sound system, so these were the base model speakers.
I put in a set of MB Quart-Discus speakers in. 6.5". I had to create custom brackets for them to fit in. If you can see in the pictures, the magnet on the factory speakers are really small, and they are raised out from the inside of the door. I used .75" thick acrylic (don't use acrylic I found out) to bring the speaker far enough out of the door housing, so that the window did not hit the magnet/housing in the back.
Also, the bracket ends up being more of a pear shaped bracket than circular, like in the factory speakers. It has to be able to clear the snap pins on the bottom of the door trim.
The factory speakers that came out look like they have a max of 30w. My new speakers can handle a lot more power than that. They sound good at low to medium high volume. Once you get them louder though, you can really tell that an amp is required. The stock head unit doesn't have much power all by itself. That is not uncommon for a factory head unit though, so I wasn't surprised.
Sorry I didn't take a picture of the door while the cover was off.

sometimes what i do is actually destroy the stock speaker (if it's plastic) and use it as a spacer itself... that way it saves u time and money by not having to construct a spacer or buy one.
of course this is only if the aftermarket speaker will fit and clear the door panel. it's a quick, easy, cheap alternative if ure gonna junk ur stock speakers anyways.
