Smile I have a few questions regarding my 08 wrx

Hello everyone! I am fairly new to iclub and the suby community. I recently bought an 08 wrx and I love life now. AWD is the ****, hands down!! But I have a few questions..

1. I live in Lake Tahoe @ 6,200 ft above sea lvl... how does elevation affect a car in terms of pressure throughout the engine??

2. I am still under warranty, but plan on doing some mods in the NEAR future ( stage 2 ), is there any particular brands to avoid?

Thank you for your input!

1. normally aspirated cars have a prob with higher elevation, but because you have a turbo, you shouldn't notice any problems.

2. modding ur car and keeping your warranty all depend on how friendly your dealership is. My opinion is go with the Cobb AP. If you run into a problem and need to go to the dealership for warranty work, you can simply remove the tune from your car. I went that route and love it.

Next you get to pick out a turbo-back

Nice, thanx for the reply. Curious as which dealer you use, seeing that you are in Danville? I've had some experience with the Walnut Creek dealership, but their isn't one in Tahoe (closest is Reno, I believe). My engine is fairly broken in as well, sitting at 19k miles here soon.

-I've been looking at these dp's, any suggestions??

For the most part its just what you like. There isn't too much difference between all downpipes. I mean sure some have cats and divorced wastegates, but what I mean is that between brands there isn't much difference. I went with the Maddad downpipe for my car, no real reason behind it, I just thought it looked good.
I like the idea of divorced wastegate, altho mine makes the car illegal because all the gasses going out the wastegate go around the cat.

Just to warn u if you are in the Cali side of Tahoe then it is illegal to change out your catalytic converter. Doubt that really matters to you, I deffinately didn't worry when I put my new dp on. lol.

Of the ones you have links to I would go with the Invidia divorced wastegate one. If you are planning on doing the up-pipe too then I'd just wait until you are going to replace the headers too, seeing as to install the up-pipe you have to take the headers off.

Sorry that's a lil long.
oh btw I go to Walnut Creek when I need parts, and luckily I haven't needed warranty work. *** Livermore. I bought my car there, but those guys are morons. They installed a transmission in one of my old cars and put a clutch plate in backwards, then tried to say I broke it. OMG I hate them. Ok enuf of a rant.

Might want to take a look at Perrin, Maddad, and maybe Cobb. All good companies too.

Sounds great! Thanks for the input. So talking about the legalities of the catalytic converter, so it is illegal to swap the stock for an aftermarket CC?? Crazy... I am a little worried because the cops up here are F***in ******!! They pull everyone over! I even have 20% tints all the way around, but a Dr note for migranes gets the cops off me. It acutally works...I will update soon, once I get a few more paychecks

How is the install for the DP, as far as easy & time?? Will I be able to do it myself + help from some friends??

Hope all is well!

I did a Google search on CA tint laws....from what a read up to 30% tint in the front windows is legal. Meaning 70% light must go through and it can't be reflective or colored. But you ask any tint shop around here, they say all tint is illegal.

yeah, only way u can change ur stock cat legally is if it is not preforming propperly, and then it is supposed to be replaced with another stock one.

as for the dp, the install is extremely straight forward and not very time consuming.
I think on my own I did it in 20 mins. The only annoying part is getting the intercooler back in place on the turbo.
Just take off the IC, remove all the bolts and the O2 sensor, swap pipes, bolt up, and put ur IC back on.
I don't think u will have the same problems I did with the IC, because urs is smaller and you can use ur hand to put the silicone pipe back on the turbo.
Should only take you 30 mins if you have all the right tools.
Good luck!

Funny guys... I acutally got pulled over yesterday for my "illegal tints" according to CA law (20% around). I pulled out my Dr's note from my eye Dr. and flashed that to the CHP and he sent me on my way... NO TICKET...

Thank you for all the follow through's guys! Ill post some pics soon.

(1) The material has a minimum visible light transmittance of 88 percent.

as specified in that federal standard.

(3) The material is designed and manufactured to enhance the ability
of the existing window glass to block the sun's harmful ultraviolet A rays.

(4) The driver has in his or her possession, or within the vehicle,
a certificate signed by the installing company certifying that the
windows with the material installed meet the requirements of this
subdivision and identifies the installing company and the material's
manufacturer by full name and street address, or, if the material was
installed by the vehicle owner, a certificate signed by the material's
manufacturer certifying that the windows with the material installed
according to manufacturer's instructions meets the requirements of this

Thats for the front windows.

ScoobySon, thank you for the detailed info. That further supports the fact that cops don't want to do paper work, let alone lose in court. Right on!
