I know the following are probably just universal parts, but does anyone know if things like this work? will it do more damage then good? etc.

There is no "chip" that actually works. These are the same BS ones sold on Ebay, all they really are is 10-cent resistors that are supposed to fool the ECU into thinking the intake air temperature is lower than it really is, so it allows more timing advance and fueling. They don't work and can actually harm your engine.
If you are looking for performance upgrades, do some research in the technical sections of this site and NASIOC to see what is available, relatively safe and actually works. There are some bolt-ons for your 2.5i that will give some modest improvements, however there isn't much in the way of engine management upgrades for the normally aspirated engines. 99.99% of the available EM options are geared toward the turbo powertrains.
