BOV - Stock Turbo.
Aloha, I'm a proud owner of a 2011 SWP Wrx.
Sorry for being a newb considering this is my first turbo vehicle but I had some questions. Does a BOV ease stress on the factory turbo? Do you lose power? I've been told various statements, which can't really make a clear point.
I've also heard of half atmospheric and recirculating Bov which completely loses me. If anyone can explain to me the differences are or what can you benefit from this I'd like to know all I can.

Stock is good. Unless you upgrade your turbo and up the psi you won't be needing one. Some people buy them regardless of your cars health and performance. But unless you get tuned for it then your car will run like **** and most likely bog.
BOV=VTA(Vent to Atmosphere) is a valve body that will release 100% of the excess pressure to the air
Stock=BPV(Bypass Valve) Is a valve body that will return the excess pressure back into the engine.
They have hybrid bov/bpv where you can adjust how much you want vented to atmosphere for sound but just get one or the other.
My strong suggestion is keep your stock one since getting a different bov will add no performance gains and make your car run like crap. Also I strongly suggest going onto nasioc or scoobymods and reading up on your car. I'm not trying to sound like an asshat or anything, but I'm just advising from personal experience. There is a lot of information to be learned on the forums.

Yeah, you really dont need a bov until you start to up grade stuff.
but if you do run a BOV you should run in re-circulating cuz the Suby motors run way better when you re-circulate. You should not use any BOV that doesn't re-circulate. I mean, you can.. but the Suby just likes it better when it re-circulates
Because some BOV manufacturers realize this, you have Two different types of suitable BOV's. Some that re-circulate and some that half recirculate and half vent to the atmosphere. The ones you want are obviously the re-circulating type. The ones that are half, half are pretty much just to be louder and sound more cool
. But at the same time it won't mess things up as much, because half the air is re-circulating.
Now you still can run a BOV that vents to the atmosphere. I have seen wrx's running non-recirculating and the car ran fine, some cars however will die out while driving.. it's kind of a hit or miss.

our plastic ones are good for 20psi-ish, anything more like an e85 tune, you may consider something thats 50/50 since the spring will not hold.
