2008 compatibility?
ok, so I would really like to know what parts are compatible with the 2008 imprezza's?
What I mean, is can I use anything made for the 06+/STI models on my car? Suspension, exhaust, engine bolt on's/internals? Intakes? Turbo upgrades, TMIC?
Obviously interior and exterior mods are specific, but what about all that mechanical?
has anyone actually tried anything yet?
*edit: so I keep seeing things on ebay like hoods advertised for 06-08 WRX... are the hoods really the same? or is that just false advertising?

Here are some baselines for you:
Pre 08 models are near completely different. There are possible a few engine/drivetrain parts that could carry over to the 08+, but thats it. No body parts will fit. Probably no interior parts will fit. Exhaust, intercooler, etc will not work. On the 2008 WRX, the external bit of the engine are quite different, so most bolt ons from the outgoing model will not work
The 08+ WRX engine is most closely related to the legacy GT 2.5L turbo engine engine starting a few years back, not the previous wrx or sti. That said, both the previous and current WRX engines do share much, but ther eis a greater chance of LGT parts being compatible than WRX.
The 08 STI and WRX are also very different and will no be compatible on most parts. There are major differences in the engine, body, suspension, and brakes. Hood, hatch, and lights are built on the same design, but really not much else of the body. I believe the new STI motor shares much in common with the last STI motor, but due to fitment with chassis, most external bolt on parts will be different

so, brakes is it huh. I was hoping for some intake/exhaust compatibility but it sounds like thats a no go. I'll be looking out for some retailer sales this summer.
On the compatibility note though, it does not matter too much unless looking for used parts. There are many companies making parts just for the 08+. Perrin for one has been making them since before you could buy the car.

well of course it would be for used parts... with the activity of the nor cal classifieds section, I was hoping for the ability to pick up an intake or exhaust for less. Its alright though, a brand new car really deserves brand new parts. This summer or fall we will be able to do some upgrades hopefully.
