2004 Forester Demo
My wife is interested in the Forester XT. We went in and checked them out and they had a demo there with 1500 miles on it that was being driven by the manager. The salesman said that he would sell the demo for invoice. He told us to take the car home for the weekend and we did. We love the car. Very comfortable and very quick. However the salesman says that since these are high demand items, he can only go as low as invoice ($24,826) MSRP $27,350. I seem to think they could go lower. Has anyone been able to order an XT anywhere near invoice? If so the salesman is going to have to come down some. We really like the car but are not going to buy if we feel we could get it cheaper by ordering.

Myself I'd be a little leary of any demo car but in particular a Turbo one. My guess is that was a hard 1,500 miles. I'd rather be the one to brake it in. I also like to change the oil at 1K but that's just me.
You are right it's quick and I can see anyone that had it finding out how quick.
I have to say I love mine, but if I were you I'd order one or go someplace else that's willing to deal.

Any car with 1,500 miles is used - not new. You have no idea who has driven it, or how. Charging invoice price for a used XT is (in my opinion) a ripoff.
I bought the first new XT 5-speed sold in Oregon (June 23). The car was configured to my exact specifications at the port of entry prior to arriving at my dealer. It had 2.2 miles on the odometer as it rolled off the transporter. I required my dealer to guarantee in writing that no one would drive it except as absolutely necessary to prepare it for delivery, and then no further than absolutely necessary. When I picked it up the following Monday, it had 2.6 miles. That's a new car.
I bought it for exactly $100 over invoice. Including two popular equipment groups (armrest extension, bumper protector, cargo mat, air filter, mudguards) plus rubber floor mats and the $200 column-mount boost gauge (and specifically excluding the pointless, expensive rear spoiler), my entire delivered price was $23,978.
If I were you, I'd find another dealer.

Great advice! Exactly what I was wanting to hear. I am going to call some other dealers around the area and get a quote over invoice. Then call this dealer back and give him the chance to beat it. Otherwise we got a free rental for the week. I guess since I never beat on cars it is hard to imagine someone else beating on a car they don't own, but you are right about not knowing how it was driven. Of course the guy driving it looked to be in his 50's.

Thanks again! I called Beechmont Subaru here in Cincinnati and they said we could order one at invoice or even take one out of dealer stock at invoice. I guess the salesman we got the demo from is going to have to do some double talk to explain why I would pay more for a Demo than I would for a brand new never driven car.

Well I took back the demo and told the salesman that I wasn't interested and of course he wanted to sell me a car so he matched the other place for invoice. We got one of the XT's he had on the lot. It is a MT instead of auto and we didn't get the rear spoiler However it had every other thing we wanted. Invoice was 23,750. This is $1,100 dollars cheaper than the demo. I was very happy and we pick up the car tomorrow after it is cleaned up and we sign all the paperwork. I will post some pics hopefully tomorrow. Thanks again for all the helpful comments.

Cool. congrats, I'm sure you're gonna be happy with it. Mine has exceded my expectations. Have a look at the scoobymods.com site in the Forester sections. I've been doing a few things here and there.

Actually I registered at nasioc.com also. The WRX wagon was in the pool of possible cars for a while. I will stop by and check out the midwest forum. I wasn't sure if the site was only for Imprezas or not.
