what to believe about headers and pulleys
hey whats up , i was wondering what mod to get next on my car, here is a list of mods that i have now power wise.
apexi n1 catback, clutch masters stage 3 , jun flywheel, injen cold air intake ,
i know that you guys recommend turbo , but right now i cant go turbo , cuz i had to do my suspension first cuz it was shot , and im not goin to put all this power into my car if that suspension cant hold it. so i have been thinking about headers , but people say they are a waste of money and no gains . Then i was told to get pulleys, but now people are telling me that the pulleys will wwear out my motor and kill it and its not worth it. whats to do , i dont know what to believe anymore

Do what you want to your own car. People say alot of things about the wrx that are not true and what not. There are guys who have been running pullies on there car for 30,000 plus miles with no ill affect. Then there are people who say that if you remove the harmonic balancer and replace it with a pully you will kill your motor. The wrx does not have a harmonic blancer. People say the stock turbo is useless above 16psi but thats not true ethier.

I guessed that when you posted this in the naturally aspirated forum. I gave what people belive to be true for the wrx as an example. Do your homework and choose parts for your car based on solid research not everybodys personal opinions. The more you read all the forums you will start to see who knows what thier talking about and those who just repeat something they heard.Call up cobb tuning and talk to those guys they should get you on the right path.

You would appreciate most cold air intakes, Catback exhaust, and headers. I think once you get all that, the clutch and flywheel would be a good touch. I would also add a short throw shifter. People always forget wheels and suspension. The last probably has the most impact on performance and looks.

Yea i agree with Forestar if you dont have a good set of tires it doenst really matter what else you have because your car will not be able to grip. Out of pulleys and headers i would go with headers. you would probally see a better increase in power from them. and they make our cars sound Nasty!

My 2000 2.5RS had both Borla headers & Unorthodox Racing lightened & underdriven pulleys when I bought it used. I've put about 30K miles on it, and now it's at 50K. Feels fine and healthy to me. I drove a stock 2001 2.5RS, and it didn't feel noticeably slower.
Now I wish I had saved the money and spent it on lightweight stuff like CF hood, better wheels, racing seats, etc... Also, suspension mods would be nice. If you want more power, I would save a couple thousand for heads & cams (N/A) or forced induction (look for Templar's supercharger kit, due this summer if we're lucky).
That's just my opinion, the EJ25 engine doesn't respond well enough to bolt-on mods to make it worth your time & money.

Bolt ons work, just you have to buy the right ones. Borlas do squat, ganzflows are not the biggest gains... But something like a Cobb intake with an MRT full exhaust = definatly noticable gains without a dyno. Pulleys are also noticable too of course, as will be cams and a flywheel.

Yes you will notice, but your pocket will notice too. A basic intake and Borla/Muffler are pretty cheap and don't get in the way of anything in the engine bay. MRT headers are like $1000+ and the Cobb intake will give you like maybe 5 more HP than the Ganz. For the price of those two, your almost close to getting a turbo kit. It depends if you want to pay two times as much for 10HP more. You'll get more HP taking extra weight off the car. Plus those gains aren't going to help you much off the line

No I dont, just email Langston Subaru. Here is the responce I got when I asked them how much the MRT headers and Cat were:
I think the midpipe is another $50 and the muffler another $150, or at least you can buy the muffler elsewhere for under $150 as I saw a post over on NASIOC of someone selling that muffler individually for cheap as nails, but personally i'd go with another muffler or a custom midpipe/muffler with the MRT header/cat combo.
Hi Steve, A header/cat is about $400 freight should be around $45-$50,
they
are pretty bulky. Give me some to to get from MRT, I'm out and they
take a
while to get. Thanks
