I actually go to Rally Acropolis every year and have shaken hands with Solberg and Makkinen. Not to mention that my family built the first Automall EVER and are heavily involved with the auto industry (Roseville Automall) So I feel Im more in touch with Subaru and what their company creates than most folks out there that just know how to consume. Our energy company also is in negotiations with FHI to bring in their new wind turbines... Yes in addition to hybrids the future of FHI is gna be the wind business. Maybe if you save some money you can buy some of my stock. I may have been Irate in my last post but I just hate to see noobs try and drop one liners in forums when someone has asked a legitimate question!!!!
PS If I give Subaru a bad name then maybe you should leave your MidWestern bubble of Corn Fields and 4H women and come say that s@#* to my face you tool.

does a heart good to see an rs that stout!
If you want to keep with the N/A (wich is very understandable)
I would look into cams and engine manigment. I have been reading up on tuning and what-not for my turbo project and have learned some intresting facts about proformance parts and stock computers. Basicaly it goes something like this; stock computers are tuned for reliability, and fule echonomy; and are self adjusting to stay that way. What this boils down to is once you install a power adder the car runs great, untill the computer learns and componsates for it.
So you may be sitting on a lot more power and not even know it!
The more Im looking into the more I like the idea of buying a good piggy back, or stand alone;go thru the hassel of learning to tune or taking it to some one to tune, just to have the piece of mind that no matter what I put on the car I will not have to upgrade it.
But it gets expensive from here on in.
If you decide to go with cams keep in mind that you might want to go with new valves, springs and retainers to deal with the extra lift.
If you go with a wrx engine swap you want to replace your clutch and keep a close eye on your transmission.
as far as selling and buying a wrx....
GC's are better looking, I would never consider buying a post 01 impreza if it wernt for the power they put out.
good luck man

That 300 hp n/a 2.5 is a track only car, has a TON of money into it and runs race fuel, it is not a street car. Sorry to burst your bubble, but mine was bursted awhile back. Still man if you get the stage 2 heads that rallitek is selling that is 30 whp right there, given they are $3225, but with heads, cams, headers, intake, exhaust, and highflow cat, you will be runnin over 200 at the wheels, that is alot of power, and you dont need much more for what a subaru is made for, handling. Especially with the 2.5 and how light it is. If anything I say just supercharge it, its a little cheaper, but no one does it and it gives you power throughout the entire powerband, sure not as much, but its all the time.

Well realistically you'll be at like 180WHP maybe. The EJ25 pre 05 doesn't flow air into the engine very well. The intake manifold is just too small. So you'll have to do what ZZYZX did and replace the intake manni, throttle body injectors, ignition system etc and custome fab all the throttle linkage. Would be worth it tho after you've done all the other mods. And don't forget tuning. I think the I-Speed reflash is the best option for a streetable/track car. YMMV.

my friend told me about this thing called the turbonator and the vornado thing. its like some pinwheel thing that you put in your intake and it will increase horsepower and mileage because it puts in more air etc.
just wondering though,.. i thought the intake should be free and clear of such objects that could block its air flow.
idk.. i saw the website and seen them in the shopping mall n' stuff.
sorry i'm a noob at this but i also have a 2.5i.
any feedback on this item?
but if anything, you can try that..

Well, it's been entertaining watching everyone get mad over which Impreza is the best, but how about some help for the RS owner with a need for speed.
I have an '01 RS and have searched down the same path looking for more power. I have come to the conclusion that I can only afford one high horsepower car, so I will focus on achieving big numbers in my '68 Camaro.
This is not to say that the RS can't be faster than a stock WRX, it will just cost a lot. Back in '01, 280hp models of the Impreza were sold in Japan. There is a company out of Canada called Four Star Motorsports that sells complete conversion kits (used parts) for Subies. It even includes the differentials, which have a different gear ratio. The last time I checked, the package cost about $12,000 (more than I paid for my RS).
The stock (USA) RS also has limited strength in the transmission, so if you plan to use all that power, be sure to upgrade there as well (there are some great gear builders out of Austrailia).
The cheapest alternative is to swap in a later WRX motor, as someone already suggested. Again, upgrade the tranny when you do the swap.
In all, I am happy with my relatively stock RS. It is quick, fun, and handles like a $100,000 Porsche. I beat Hondas, Toyotas, and Mitsubishis all the time. It is especially fun when they have huge wings and coffee can tailpipes. As far as the electronic diff debate goes, I could say someone is a "tool" or "d-bag" for adjusting their fuel with a computer when they should be getting their hands dirty tuning carbs. I think Subies are great cars old or new, just pick what you like. By the way, did any see that lifted '88 GL Wagon in the latest issue of SubieSport Magazine? Awsome!

You can actually get a swap for 3-8 grand pretty easy no days depending on the build. The RS tranny is fine with the WRX engine and while not the best pairing the STI engine and the RS tranny will last a little while if you know how to drive correctly and don't mash every gear.
While I agree that the mostly stock RS is a really fun car it's no where near as fun or handle as well as a 100,000 dollar porsche. But it's not a 100,000 dollar porsche it's a 18,000 dollar japanese sports(ish) car. So I see where you're going with that.
Also while you could say "I could say someone is a "tool" or "d-bag" for adjusting their fuel with a computer when they should be getting their hands dirty tuning carbs." well, it's not a small block chevy. I don't think I really need to go into too much detail but Subuar's are a whole different animal. I'm just going to chaulk that up to you being a noob (hey everyone here was at some point). If you don't tune (with a computer) you're really missing out. This ain't no F-body.
cheers
