Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

Is an underdrive pulley worth it?

I was lookin' and found this:

Do these things make that big of a difference for the money. Also is there a better brand than this or one you can recommend me?
Thanks,
Cody

Thats a good price, but I dont understand why it wont fit the EJ25... They are all the same crank pulleys, even for the EJ20T's

Yeah thats what I thought. Is this a good brand?? But I heard that by doing this, sometimes you get dimmer lights and problems if you have an amp, speakers, and subs hooked up. You know anything about this?

honestly i would stay away from that one. just gives me bad feelings. i debated whether or not to get one and eventually decided it wasn't worth it. But if you are set on one, i heard Mr. Josh's is the best bang for the buck.
Mr Josh pulley

So what exactly is the reason i can't use pully's if i have an aftermarket system. I have speakers everywhere and two 12's with no cap. I've asked before but never got a good answear. WHat would happen if i did use them?
Thnx

Wow, lots of good info. $100.00 for a pulley? I might as well make one myself for that price. Well, maybe I won't be getting one after all.

Since it underdrives the electrical system, it gets less power. So your lights will dim bad when ever the bass hits. Just go with a lightweight and non-underdriven. That's what I did in case I ever put my 12s back in.

A lot of people have said the same thing about the harmonic dampener. Yet 100s of pulleys have been sold and no one to my knowledge has ever had a problem. Your mechanic probably doesn't know a whole lot about boxers. In other words, don't worry about it.

Would it be best to get the pully that can run with my stock belts?

Yes, that would be a non underdriven pulley.

I wouldn't go under driven either...I got a nice 3 piece ( litened-not underdriven ) pully kit from a guy who has been getting me parts and mods from day 1. it is about 10lbs liter than stock (dont quote me on that ) but I have been driving on it with 2 ,10inch polks pulling 550w and a 375w in car system ...no proplems with 8000 miles

Then under drive is no t a good Idea like the guys say.......besides light pulsing U will kill Ur alternator, due to over workin it. As well as Ur battery, witch will go after a year or so of regular driving with a large system thumping. I cant say that U will hert the engine by using it. Also U are robbing Ur system of its best output when it comes to sound and quality............................So Unless U want to look like a bonehead with his lights blinkin to his bad sounding system dont go there

just to let you know, the stock pulley weighs about 5 lbs. most aftermarket lightweights weigh about 1-2.
