Thumbs up SWAY BARS: 2.5i VS WRX! [STOCK]

here is a picture of the size differences from the stock 2.5i & stock wrx rear sway bars. this is a good & cheap suspension upgrade (specialy if you cant aford a new bigger sway bar) the stock wrx rear sway bars go from $40-75.00, depending where you look for them at. [i got mine at a steal of only $45.00, it included BOTH front and rear wrx sway bars from an 05 wrx ]

did i feel a difference between the 2.5i & WRX rear sway bar? HELL YES! (specialy with the stock 16" wheels on!)

install time only took 45mins.

great deal for $45..but i would rather get a bigger set. your car is only going to handle as good as a stock wrx..better than a 2.5i yes but i would want to handle better than a wrx. not the same. i still dont get why you think are 16in wheels are so great. your car would be so much better with wider rims and tires. stock set suck.

well, 16' wheels are an advantage when autoxing and even tracking the car due to it's weight.
and +1 for upgrading the rear sway bar!

The current setup of a stock 2.5i sway is
Front - 20mm
Rear - 13mm <--- SAD

I upgraded both too.
Front - Rallitek 22mm
Rear - STi 20mm <--- i might change that to a whiteline 22-24mm adjustable.

But the sways do enhance the car's handling ability by a day and night difference.

i dont want to go any bigger on the sway bars [and i out handle any stock wrx now, i changed my springs and got ones that are 15% stiffer then the wrx's!]

and for your info.... i have 17x7" wheels for summer, but the 16" stock wheels are much lighter then what i roll on in the sumer time (specialy since i got to drive in the SNOW!).

The stock 16s and 205 treads are better in bad weather.

how is it that the 16s would be better for auto x? when your 17s are lighter and wider than your 16s...

my car corners way faster and has way more grip than my 16s ever did. i can push my car so much more.

well of course not the stock 16' rims and tires - those suck.
but if you were to get 16' lightweight rims + good set of tires, that'll perform better than the 17' rims + tires on autox

ok first of all just stiffer springs dont really do anything but wear out your struts and make your car a little more bouncy. If you really want an improvement, you are going to need coilovers...period. Second you cant out-handle a wrx with stock 2.5i sways cus wrxs are less prone to understeer because of that rear sway and thus creating more grip. So just fork down the couple hundo for some real sways and don't waste money on springs. trust me i went that route first and totally regretted spending the money

or you can go with the spring and strut combo.
(insert aftermarket springs here) + 04' STi Suspension = cheap and efficient upgrade for suspension.

^Was the WRX rear sway bar from a wagon? If so, then is your 2.5 a wagon? I'm thinking of replacing my rear with a WRX rear sway bar, and we're both wagons.

the wagon wrx rear sway bar, should be replacable on your 2.5i wagon.

If it's the front sway bar, then no go, cause the exhaust/header gets in the way.
