I have a random tech cat. Cobb tuning just came out with a one piece Header/Cat combo that bolts up to the catback. Much more power than either cat will offer, and cheaper than buying headers and a cat. Cobbtuning.com. Plus my random tech cat cost me extra money because the O2 sensor wire had to be stretched to fit into the bung, and a lot of people have problems with Check Engine lights (not me though).

 

Yea, you may want to double check that, cause just the header, with NO cat (straight pipe) and NOT coated is $650. It is also made using mild, not stainless, steel. That is the same price you'd pay for a Borla header, stainless, and either high flow cat, stainless. Not to mention you have the ability to interchange your stock parts back and forth with the Borlas and more factory type cats. May not interest some people but it is a good idea for passing emissions, if need be, or if a cop pulls you, you can go to court and show that everything is back to stock and drop your ticket. Then go home and throw it back on it an hour or so...

FYI- the nice header package from Cobb (COATED header and high flow cat section) is going to cost you about $1000 shipped and you WILL have to cut one of your stock splash guards to make them fit without melting something. Take it FWIW but I'm sticking with the old school exhaust bits, to match my old school ride...

 

Also Cobbs header is two pieces, like most systems- the header, then the cat section, or straight pipe, whichever you choose. But it will cost you.

Yes, any "high flow" cat will feel much more responsive than the restrictive stock system.

I bet a shop could easily make the random cat fit a legacy. It is possible that it has the same mounting bracket and wouldn't require modification but I haven't been under many Legacies. But yes you could get it to work.
