Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

Small coolant puddle and questions... 2001 RS

This morning I was setting my tire pressures and noticed a 5" diameter coolant puddle under my car. There was also some coolant on the LF suspension and axle so it did happen while driving, but it looks like it also came out after it was stopped. The coolant looks like it was coming from either the underside of the reservoir or somewhere near there. There was also a dribble from the top of the reservoir, but the majority obviously didn't come from there. The temp gauge never once did anything abnormal.

Some info: The reservoir was full about 5" above the FULL line, and the radiator was a little low (took about a pint of water). The radiator cap looked like hell and had some white crusty crap on it, and the rubber didn't look so good. I bought a new radiator cap, and will put it on ASAP, but anyone have any ideas? Could a faulty radiator cap totally cause this? I drove into work this morning (about 30 miles 50-80mph) and there were no leaks anywhere. I squeezed/pulsed the hoses and again there were no leaks. I also drove my car at lunch and still no leaks, and no spots under the car.

TIA for any thoughts.

get underneath it and look at your head gaskets, a very common problem on sohc 2.5s they dont blow internally, they blow externally, that would be why your coolent in the rad was low
