Shifting the 1.8L Impreza

I usually rev my 1.8 liter EJ18 to 4000RPM before the next gear...

is this putting significant strain on this engine?

Generally u shouldnt need to go over 3000rpm for normal driving, but it is a 1.8L so u might need to rev more to get it moving. Its not really straining the engine, but your just wasting more fuel.
