Oil Filters
ok, so i was bored
turns out that the same filter that goes on our beloved 2.0 and 2.5 engines also go on *gasp* civic 2.0's
So here we go, listed in order of quality/cost
Mobil 1
M1-104
K&N
HP-1004
Bosch
3312
Purolator
L14459
STP
S2808
FRAM *teh suck*
PH3593A
i put the k&n on today, the threads and the gasket matchup just fine, the only real difference is that it will not thread as much as the stock one due to the shape of the metal peice that the threads are on
i was able to thread it enough and tighten it so that it does not leak, i will be monitoring this over the next few days to see if it will ever be an issue

That test makes the assumption the filter with the largest element and neatest looking gasket filters the best.
It even says, “This analysis is not the most technical, no flow data has been taken…”
This minor detail is the difference between a quantifiable fact and a real good hunch.
I think it’s informative and a really good start but it’s not enough for me to buy $10 oil filters. We had a Honda Accord for 12 years and put 262K hard miles on it before we got our Subaru(s). I used Fram filters every time I changed the oil. We gave it to my niece last summer and the thing is still running like a champ.

Thanks Cabal, OK I know this may be out in left field, but I found this peculiar at www.wefilterit.com you'll will find the Frantz oil filter which for a low, low cost of $165 uses a roll of toilet paper as a filtering media. I'm not saying it doesn't work just that truth is definitely stranger then fiction. Now my question to you guys is which is better Scott's or Charmin Ultra. (j/k)

OK, While I was at Pep Boys today I just had to check out the story about this whole oil filter thing and as far as I can tell the Subaru dealer filter (I had one with me, OK so I have no life, ) , the Purolator filter, and the Pro-line filter(Pep boys housebrand) are exactly the same with the only difference on the Suby filter being an O-ring used to make the seal instead of those flat-cut rubber washers they use on aftermarket filters. Here's the kicker the Suby filter is $6.95, the Purolator is $2.99 and the Pro-line is $2.49. Go figure. Anyway I didn't actually cut the filters apart I just examined them very closely. Their construction seems identical. All three filters also have "20 M M" stamped between the holes on the face. There may be some kind of difference in the media, but I don't think there is because I also looked at a Pure One and you can see they use a different media in that one. The pleating actually looks denser. As a side note my car still has the original filter on it. It's a light blue color instead of white so I'm curious as to who makes that one.
