Ok, I have a friend who has a hood scoop and we were thinking that I could take out the stock air intake and make a custom box for the upper (the one on the throttle body) air box, and mount the scoop above it and have it forcefeed into the custom air box.
The idea is that when the hood is closed, there will be a plush "seal" between the bottom of the hood and the top of the airbox, and when going down the road, you get the coolest air possible, and theoretically, the faster you go, the more air the engine gets.
My question is could this work?
And any idea about how much power would be acquired?
 <gotta throw that in

But wouldnt that be sucking in air through the top of the filter? Which would mean that the air wont even pass through the filter. With the stock airbox setup, the air is sucked in from the bottom of the airbox, pass through the filter then into the intake.

a few people have done this- here's what it looks like completed.

you have to be careful in wet weather if you'll be driving around like that all the time. I've heard there are pretty good gains to be had with this mod. it sounds real nice too.

If Iam picturing this correctly. the air entering will be warmer than the air from the stock set up because its coming over the hood. Hood=Engine=Hot
My 02 cents

its been done many times and there have been arguments over the ait going straight from being sucked in and goin right to the throttle body to kill torque. also with no area for anything to get around water would go right into the filter and well no more engine
Now...Now... Lets think a little creative on this one.
Piker you usually seem a little more strategic with your words, but I'm thinking a mere jest.
Hoodscoop right above intake manifold means that if you took the scoop off and built a ram style intake, it would have the appearence of an old 70's blower.
Visualize not literize.
