this was originally posted in the shopping sect but no one answered.... so, here it is. i was surfing and i love the 97 front end, in fact i found a gorgeous green one for sale and it's a 5-speed and it's in my price range and not to aweful far away (aka under 600 miles) anyway it only has 80 some k miles on it and they are asking a great price. problem is it's a brighton. seriously are they THAT SLOW? i mean i don't really need it to be fast i have my eclipse turbo for that, but 0-60 in 11.1? i could do better on foot. tell me this is not true.... i mean it's all wheel drive, and only 2600 lbs.... let me know please, i love the car, but i'm not sure i could stand that. i mean my crx (when stock) was slow and it did it in 8.2 secs. i'm not saying it needs to be as fast as the rex, only... my moms concord could beat that!

The Brighton should be a Legacy 2.2 litre SOHC. By the magazines, the Legacy GT was rated at 0-60 in something like 9.6 seconds. I had a GT myself and I would guarantee it moved faster than that....I would even put it up against my 2.5RS. It felt like it was that strong even though it is pulling more weight (450 lbs.)

Ok, I wasn't for sure on Brighton in the Impreza line. I was assuming the Brighton you were talking about to be the Legacy. I guess the next part is being careful and making sure whether it is front wheel drive or AWD. I do know that the earlier Impreza's were made in a FWD configuration. If you only intending to drive the car I guess you could do a few things like exhaust, intake, etc. to gain a little power. If something comes up and it isn't what you want you could get a newer car and just switch out the hood and headlights to get the look of the '97.

good advice about switching out the hood and front. the earliest model i would be able to find with a 2.2L and a 5-peed would be a 96 because that's the first year they mated the manual to the 2.2. i perfer a 96 97 even with the 1.8 because a they are a little lighter in their coupes than the previous years. i wish i could talk to someone that has a 1.8 5-speed.
