MY98 DOHC Questions/Tuning Ideas...
So I'm going over the MY98 motor I got from GTBGUY for the swap into my car. Its got a few things it needs working on, but otherwise is in good condition. There is quite a bit of oil in the intake manifold, and in the throttle body... Isnt that PCV valve issue, or something else?
Anyway, my tuning question has to do with a couple things... First of all, since im using the 1.8 ECU, and I still have the Apex-i ITC and S-AFC left over from the turbo kit I put together and then sold, could I use those to run the engine a bit better with the 1.8 ECU, since I would be able to adjust the timing and fuel ratio manually? It seems like a good idea, and the older OBD-I ECU doesnt have the S-AFC issues like the newer RS's do (IE ignoring the S-AFC after awhile).
Also, Ive been noting how there are a TON of simularities with this engine and the JDM EJ20G I still have sitting around. I forget the specific number, but the EJ20G injectors are higher-flowing injectors, like 360cc? Dont remember... I have seen discussion about N/A injector upgrades before, and it seems to me like it was a waste of time...

Change the PCV valve and some of the oil should go away. Some will be there always though, that's the point of the PCV system. The oil gets burned up and is cleaner than it would be venting to atmosphere.
N/A injector upgrades are indeed a waste of time. The injectors that are on there have all the flow needed for the amount of air you can get through there.
Without changing cams, there really isn't very much available horsepower. And with stock compression, there probably isn't much power to be gained by running race gas and more timing advance even. Lastly, without a wideband O2 and dyno time, you can't be sure you're actually making the car faster and not pushing it towards detonation. Frankly, if you want to crack 180-190 hp, you should have stuck with the turbo project.

For the injectors, I was mostly just curious. It does make me realize how this is a good enigne for going turbo at a later date.
I didnt really care about 180hp, I just care more about getting it running at the stock 165hp
It wont quite be doing that with the 1.8 ECU, and with only a 6000rpm redline, but with the S-AFC/ITC I think that I could get it up to running properly I would gladly pay for some tuning/dyno time with S-squared in a couple months when I can afford it. I guess what I want to know is if that isnt a good idea...
