HELP!!! Somethings burning!!!
I have a 98' Impreza wagon. All is well....except.... everytime I run it, then shut it off theres a terrible burnt rubber smell. Any crazy ideas. Everything runs fine and it has all new belts, minus timing. No other problems. Please help!!!

Burnt Rubber smell; could it be burning oil? Does it smell/smoke when you stop for a light? Auto or manual transmission? Check underneath the car see if it's wet with oil. Might have a transmission oil leak. I had a problem with my Lagacy. One of the hoses that went to the tranny cooler dripped on my exhaust pipe. If you find the underside of the car if covered in oil the best thing to do is soak everything with degreaser take it to a coin wash and spray the crap out of it. wipe it down then drive it around for a couple days and see if you can spot the leak. It should be much easier when everything is clean.

It;s not as much a crush washer as it is an aluminum gasket.

If you work in the parts dept. you should know that the oil pressure sender screws into a gallery plug which screws into the block. Between the gallery plug and the block there is a crush washer. Have a nice day.
It'd be nice if they had people in the parts dept. who actually worked on these motors.
