HELP! Frustrating problem with my old '85 GL

I have an old clunky '85 Subaru GL non-turbo, and even though its a beater, its been a great car that has never let me down until now. I was driving along and all of a sudden the engine just killed. Would not start no matter how much cranking. Someone determined it was the coil. Got a new coil. At first it started up and worked great for a day. Next day.. Just dies again. Found out I had gotten the wrong coil. Took it back and got the right one, but STILL having the same problem (not starting or even sputtering).
Here's what I found out:
NO spark is getting to plugs
I tested for spark from the coil directly, and found it was only giving a spark when I clicked the igition from on to off. VERY strange.
I am out of things to try. I checked the power at the coil, and everything reads good. BTW.. does anyone know the CORRECT wiring for the coil? There are 3 black wires on the + side, and 2 yellows on the - side. That's how it was hooked up before, but I just want to make sure.
SORRY FOR THE LONG POST!
Thanks!
MATT
