I'm now looking for exhausts. i have a 2002 2.5 rs. i was thinking stromung dual tip, but have heard negative things about the rust issue. i was cerious about what everyone thought about the exhaust. i''m looking for a moderately loud. not quiet but not loud.. somewhere in between. if yo have any suggestion... please let me know...

Money to burn or on a budget?

Was in a market too for an exhaust solution but found stromungs to be nice and expensive and could not afford right now...

So...

Got a catback from a 2002 WRX.
I has the 2.25" pipe that is great for an RS (extensive reading on this subject led me to this decision), and it doesnt sound so loud

It is a direct bolt on, EXCEPT for the flange connecting the mid-pipe or resonator pipe to the cats....

This had to be cut, turned and soldererd to the right position....after that a direct bolt-on

Spent $100 for the complete cat $55 to get it moded and installed (they ripped me off on the weld and install, live a learn)

Now, be careful with an used exhaust.....to my bad luck, my muffler (the axle-back) was messed up somehow and in some cases it made a chirping sound that after a while made me crazy so I took it out until recently I got the axle-back from a '06 wrx which should bolt on to my moded mid-pipe. I lucked out and got it with 0 miles from a tech of the dealer which changed his '06 right after buying it....$60

all in all I havent spent the near $500 for a stromung or others...
the car feels MUCH better

If u want it to sound more.....put a straight pipe without a resonator...

thanks for the idea.. i really am looking to get into an aftermarket exhaust though. still concidering the stromung or my new one an espelir jgt 500. which i have heard is kind of loud. but on some other reviews moderate. let me know people. thanks

 

Get a Stromung Dual Tip, the rusting was only with the mild steel versions, now theyre all Stainless Steel. Run a header back exhaust with no cat, (Stromung cat. eliminator pipe (Track Pipe), Stromung Mid-Pipe, Stromung Dual Tip Axelback and you can throw on some Borla headers if you got the cash. Thats what I plan on doing but I don't know if I can get the headers just yet .... dam money.

 

that's kind of what i was thinking but from what i was reading the rusting problems as well as a cracking problem happened with the welds. was that cured with the new ones do you know?

Ummmm if not that then go ScoobySport axelback etc. etc. What? I never heard of one story with the stainless of rusting cracking , please show me the article, i'm sure it comes with a warrenty anyways even if it did but it was because of the crappy *** mild steel that they were useing to make them. They would rust out in less than 6 months.

ok... well i was reading and found that stroung is fairly quiet.. some say almost as much as stock.. i want to find something that is going to be noticeable.. not so much that i'm gunna get a ticket... or be really annoying.. but have a nice rumble to it while i drive.... still noticeable that people will hear when i drive by but not so loud that you will hear me a block away... will the stromung be good with this?

oh and the loudest stromung tip is the XA. its missing some resonator or something making it the loudest, dual tip is the quietest.

so is he dual tip over in the exhaust world on the loud side still or quiet? i've been concidering the dual tip.. i just want to bea able to actually hear the thing

 

still very loud. difference between xa and dual isnt that much, but the xa is still louder.
