Custom Cat-back; Borla Headers- In Harmony

Okay... I FINALLY got my cat-back fabbed and installed... I've been holding onto a generic dual-tip 'straight-thru design' muffler I got off Ebay a few months ago, and I've been changing plans for a few weeks now.

I settled with 2 1/4 piping, and a MONSTER 30" stainless steel resonator (I didn't want it to be obnoxiously loud). I love the sound... With the borla headers and rallitek intake I have installed, it seems to have a really cool, low rumble- just as I was shooting for. I wish I had a way of recording a sound clip...

The fitment is near perfect (IMHO), and it couldn't be much more solid. I think the angle and position of the tips fit the line and cutout in the bumper quite nicely. I see this as one advantage of getting a custom cat-back rather than a pre-fab. Also, everything, (including the $75 magnaflow resonator, muffler, and kartboy bushings) only cost me around $250.

I originally wanted to paint the muffler and part of the tips black (and would still prefer it that way), but I never got around to that.

I guess now I'm in search of a high-flow cat section to make it a complete head-back exhaust

Thanks

He (muffler Mike) had the one I got in stock... Anyhow it is magnaflow part #14464. 14463, 14462, 14461, I believe, are just shorter- but this site doesn't specify the length. the 14464 is 30", that's all I know...

Here are some that are a little different, but would serve the same purpose...

If you enter in the part # at the top of the page... here's the one I got ( I guess I coulda' saved some money by buying it myself, rather than through the muffler shop... only about $15 though, considering shipping.)

They really do seem to tone down the sound quite nicely- and they may even possibly make it a lower tone... because I can't see how mine could sound much lower.

i just made a custom cat back for my imprezal 2.2, i couldnt stand my loud *** just muffler setup anymore, i work at a subaru dealer, and one of my managers messed up his 05 legacy gt sedan, so the exhaust had a dent in it, i fabbed it to work on my car, minus the y pipe in back (i dont really want duals) its 2 1/2 with a large resonator, to a pilot muffler, i love it, and i can really feel the difference, i recommend doing a custom cat back to anyone, now my next step is some sort of custom headers, since it appears very easy to do

Does anyone know if most muffler shops could 'heat-coat' my catback and muffler (except the last 6" of the tips). I'd really prefer it aesthetically, as I don't really like the shiny look, and it also seems like it would prevent rust and keep the exhaust temps up where they should be.

How much should this run, and can would it be cheaper to DIY?

Looks good to me, I'm considering doing much the same on my forester, except with a SuperTrapp muffler.
