95 L EJ18 auto. I got a code of 21(cts) changed the sensor. CEL still on (21). Is there more than one sensor? Thanks to the I-Club for lots of good info.

 

Any other sugguestions, or anything else to check? I unhooked the battery, but the code is still there. Please help

 

It was hard cold starting, but it hasn't been cold since I changed the coolant temp sensor. Fuel economy/ performance(or lack thereof) seems fine. I've noticed if my CEL is on my fans run continuously. Is that normal for a subbie?

 

if coolant temp sensor is bad than the fans will run all the time
it will take a long crank time to start the coolant temp sensor is located on the right side of the engine below the intake it will be a two wire brown connector to clear the code you should use a scan tool

 

UPDATE: first cold night, the car is still hard to start, but not near as bad.

 

I replaced the temp sensor on the water pipe that goes across the top of the motor. Is there another one? Do I need a scan tool on a 95?

 

yes you need a skan tool to clear the memory and the code and the pcm

After a lot of headaches, I've found there IS another sensor. One has two wires(coolant temp sensor), the other only one. The 2 wire is a variable(resistance, I belive) the other is open or closed. I tested my old(2 wire) it was still good. So, back to the dealer for another sensor(one wire). Hopefully it will cure my hard starting. P.S. my MY95 doesn't have the OBD II.fyi build date 8/94

 

I do not know if you fixed the problem yet, but the sensor you want to change is the one with the brown connector or the sensor side on your crossover pipe. There is also a washer that goes on with it.

Already replaced that one, checked the original and it was still good, still CEL, and still a beotch to start when it is below about50 degrees, want to fix it before it gets too cold
