Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

ok thank u, and to URABUS, when the A/C is off this doesn't happen, its a gradual acceleration from the get go, yet when it is on it feels like it bogs out, then all the torque is slammed to the wheels at once, but i understand what you mean by the powerband

air conditioning literally "robs" a TON of power from your engine. This coupled with the fact that it is just a 4 cyl. engine accentuates the loss of power, esp. at low rpms. Every engine that has an A/C pump attached to it suffers from this power loss while A/C is turned on, but cars with bigger engines just aren't affected as much by the loss of power.

edit: that sudden rush of power you feel at higher rpm is the turbo spooling up and generating boost, thus making up for the loss in power at low rpm.

The NA Subies are really bad on low end torque, I feel the pain of it daily. However, it is more than made up for with midrange power and handling. Probably the perfect daily driver... except for the 26-27mpg part.

That could be a problem. Probably something simple like a belt. Get it checked out at the next regular service unless it gets worse.
