Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

Question Anyone Know How To Change Idle On 'Drive By Wire'

I just installed Delta cams in my N/A 2.5 Although it pulls like a rhino and will idle lumpy at startup (which is fine... lumpy I expected). When driving and coming to a stop the engine just dies ~ I need to be able to pick up the idle (or even partially change the gas peddle's stopping point, to fool the ECM?).

Any ideas? My techs at the dealer have no answer ~ maybe someone here does?

So when you stop at an intersection, your engine shuts off completely?
What about the PP6 program? would that help fool the ECM?

Yes, it just shuts down and we are dead in the water. Of course I keep it 'alive' with the throttle ~ but this can't go on for ever. Need to find a fix. The ECM resets the idle to 450 rpms no matter what I do. The cams need 900 rpms.

I even tried using the AC or defrost to get the extra RPMs at idle, but it always settles back down to 450 rpms!

I guess I should call Rallitek next...?

Did you reset the ECU bro?

Disconnect the negative for 5 min, reconnect they start er up and let it run for 10 min to reset to default settings. Again im really new to subby's but this was a fix on most of my other cars when i replaced the cams. I would imagine that the ecu will relearn and correct your issue.

If it was only that simple. The ECM was reset when the cams were put in at the dealership (I sell there). Idled just fine till the tech and I drove the car ~ when I would come to a stop it would just die. Dead.

Since then, I reset again and let it idle for 2 hours while I watched a movie ~ AC on, AC off (et.al). It now idles without cutting out at stops.

BUT, it needs to idle at 900 -1000 for the 'mis-fire' code not to throw a 'check engine light'. It's THAT simple. If we monitor it, as soon as it falls to 750 rpms (pre-set idle speed) or below, the lame ECM says "misfire in 1-2-3-4".

There is NO capacity with the OEM ECM to re-set idle speed (or mixtures) in my '05. However, in '07 there IS (but does me no good because my engine does not have the "i-active Variable Valve" system ~ so that ECM is not comaptible with the '05).

I welcome any and all suggestions to get a whopping 150 more rpms at idle. I will admit I miss the 'idle screw' of the old days... beats getting 'screwed on idle settings'!

Is a 'piggy back' with an idle function the way to go??? If so, who's has that ability?

is there anyway you can rig the fuel, even physically at the peddle, to always be at maybe 5% throttle? about the only thing i can think of

This really is the best solution I have come up with as well. Hoping there is something I can do to the 'zero' gas peddle stop, to actually allow the pedal to be held slightly open instead of ALL the way to 'zero' position.

Will need to crawl under the dash again and look (I just put the WRX pedals a month or so ago ~ but I can't remember waht is under there that I might be able to 'fool'?

do you think will my '00 RS have the same issue?? (meaning same throttle system?) ..... i am seriously considering doin the delta cams. i convinced myself i cud do the install and i got over the slight low-end power loss... but a CEL and stalling is somethin that WILL stop me from doin this. thanks guys

can't you have the ECU reflashed? Is that an option for you?

the only ecu work i might be doing is OpenECU tuning/flashing... im not gonna pay hundreds of dollars to keep gettin my car reflashed and i dont have the money to buy a standalone to tune myself... SO lol i want the openecu route (free), but im currently tryin to find out if it will work. most ppl doin that tuning are with rex's or turbo swapped RS's ... i was jus hopin that this idle/cel problem wouldnt apply to my car...

bigstrusk, you don't have drive-by-wire... so you can probably re-adjust your idle manually.

NW OBS, Talked to anyone at Cobb? I keep hearing they are supposed to release an AccessPort for the 2.5 NA motors... I would assume they would offer a map for each of their power "stages"... one of which includes cams...

There is a reprogram for the fly by wire throttles from Subaru for a throttle not releasing quickly enough. It should be a free warranty reflash but I dont know if it will help your problem or not but its worth a try.

Please explain more about this warranty reflash... I am starting to wonder if my fly-by-wire is operating correctly.
