2004/2005 RS gas mileages?
Hey guys, I'm getting some pretty crappy mileages for my 2005 RS, about 18 mpg. Driving on street and freeway equally and its an auto with no mods. Is it just me with that kinda crappy mileages? I dont drive it hard either and fill up with 91 gas =/

My stock '05 5MT wagon with a bike rack on the roof got 28.5 MPG on my last tank of regualr gas (87 oct I think) with about 75% highway miles. Historically I average about 26.5 mpg, but I drive pretty conservatively. When the car was new, I tried using better gas a couple times to see if it made any difference, but I didn't notice any inprovement in power or MPG. IMO using 91 oct in an RS might just be wasting your $$.

im gettin 27-28 on average. after you get a couple thousand miles on it will get better. like wayner said, there is no need to put premium in, just use 87 (89 if you must) and start saving your extra pennies for some mods!
I'm at 9,XXX miles now, why am i getting such poor mileage? Auto over stickshift cant do that much harm can it? Should i take it back to the dealership and tell them wassup? Seems weird to me, getting 18mpg, last fill up i only got 16.8 I calculate every time because i never got over 22mpg =(

My '04 RS averaged 25.7 MPG over it's 31,500 mile life. It was an automatic, babied for the first 1000 miles, serviced regularly using Mobil 1 oil, and had a Cobb CAI and custom Borla catback installed at 24,000 miles.

i have 1300 miles only now. But it should be broken in a bit. The only problem i can see why is that i think i revved way over 4000RPM (8-11 times?). Thus, i babied it, but not that well.
I've gotten 23 miles once, but that's driving conservatively (i don't go over 4000 RPM)
on average i got 18.
Could this be why? (I have an 05 RS)

I'm still getting about 225 miles on 11 gallons on for the longest time. I have about 13,000 miles now and nothing have changed. That sucks. But i guess thats what i get for mainly driving street, but I dont use the AC and no Mods =/

I wouldn't waste your money on 91 octane. The Subie NA engine runs fine on 87/88. Also, you might want to reset your ECU and drive it easy for the first day while the ECU is in learning mode. Should give you better mileage afterwards. It's a trade off though, might not be as responsive or pull as hard. If you don't like it, can always reset the ECU again and drive it hard in learning mode again.

I'm curious about when you are all filling up. With the Subaru gas gauge you still have 2-3 gallons left when the light comes on. If you fill up before the light comes on the gauge reads really low but you still may have a good 4 gallons left. Just something to keep in mind. Four gallons equals significantly more miles.
I did a little trial testing with the gas gauge when I was driving around. It seems that the gauge is reading a little disporportionately. Until it gets to the first mark, you may be getting a good 90-100+ miles. Then the gauge seems to go down much more rapidly. Then from the last mark to empty, it goes down more slowly again. Yes, I know they represent fourths, and it should go down proportionately, but the mileages don't match up.
