I have a '00' impreza rs. it seems as though a head gasket has gone bad. i was wondering if this is something that i should be doing on my own and how difficult it actually is. could some of you impreza enthusiasts please respond to me.

I have a 2000 2.5 rs and I had to have both of my head gaskets replaced. Thankfully it didnt cost me a thing, warranty work. This was a problem with this year, cheasy stock gaskets, there are replaced but thicker ones. I looked at trying to do it myself and it is pretty hard. you have to pull alot of the motor apart to get to it. Have a dealer do it. it will be costly but done right.

Are they stock head gasket replacements, cuz i was told that the stock ones are thin and thats why they go. Also do you have any diagrams of a head gasket job or did you just wing it and if so would you possibly be able to describe it to me.. I only say this cuz I live in Massachusetts i think your a little far away lololol..

yes they are stock head gasket rteplacements... your headgaskets shouldn't gop bad unless you are running high boost.. I have been running 10 psi of boost on my stock head gaskets ( before I got an sti block) and there was nothing wrong with them at all... are you running any sort of boost at all? and who did you have put there other head gasket in? there is a certain meticulous pattern how to crush the head gaskets, if you don't follow it they will blow out. Let me kno what you think

If you know anyone at your local dealer's service department see if they will loan you one of their service manuals so you can do it and save some loot. If you have any experience with any engine assembly it shouldn't be a problem as Subarus are designed as "mechanic friendly" as any I have seen.
