2.25" vs 3.0" exhaust

Guys,
Not to be snobby, because I know that turbo kits are expensive, but for the amount of power you'll be getting out of your "bigger" exhaust system, you might as well open a savings account for a turbo kit. I did all this shyte on my car and still barely beat stock imprezas. It just doesn't seem to make sense for all of the noise, time and (above all else) $$ that you'll expend on a VERY minor improvement.
Apologizies to all I've offended...Just a thought from someone who's been there.

well 2.5 gives alittle more on top but if you get a intake, brand depending, anything south of 2500 maybe 3000 would be much worst making 5 gear a highway only gear
when you go turbo buy another cheap AWD suby and put it on because you will never get close to what you payed for it if you sell it
this is my plan for my swap in two year hopefully

2.5 ?
if your gona drop 4 grand on a turbo down the road, why worry about the exaust for it now?
I've thought about only doing mods to my car that would still alow for a turbo down the road.....but thats lame. its all about fine tuning your car now right? so tune it up for what it is now.....and worry about your turbo and B/O valve and **** later when you hit the jackpot.....why bother getting a turbo if your only gona get 5 lbs of boost out of your ej25 block anyway? get the whole fu*cking STI engine and drivetrain and slap her in there =) dont go half ***

Well, along that line of thinking, why mess around with a 2.5 at all? Let's just quit all this useless modding of our cars and have an STi group buy!!
Dude, an RS with a stock motor and the correct mods can make some serious power. An STi block and drivetrain along with a turbo kit is a whole different ballgame.

it is much cheaper compared to buying a new car much less a sti if you can get one
because for a 4k turbo kit you can blow away stock rexs at 6 psi
4k is not much compare to a 22k rex or 30k sti
but i know what you mean
really why go turbo when you can swap in a built rex engine or sti engine with good trans

I was told by my exhaust expert that you are right about the 2" being more ideal for a STOCK 1.8- however with a pulley kit, velocity intake, walbro f/p, and true grounding kit that you could easily get away with a 2.5" system if you are retaining the stock cats. If I went with the high flow cat as well, the 2.25" is pretty much a perfect choice for a 1.8 with some simple mods and I expect to free up about 15 horses since I've got way too much back pressure with all those mods.
ive been thinking about it...and in retrospect i dont think it matters a big deal in terms of torque loss for a CATback system...the restriction still comes earlier in the system ; thereby keeping exhaust velocities high and torque loss minimal.
