Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

If anything a shorter piece of pipe i think would make the noise louder.

Perhaps you could stop by a local pick n pull and see if any wrecked WRX's or older model cars have the silencer so you can reattach it?

if you got a cone filter, that fender box isn't doing anything to your intake system other than robbing cold air. I would leave the box out, and replace the cone filter with the stock filter box. Just run a nice panel filter like a K&N or Perrin.

The cone filter is what is making that noise, it's the sound of engine induction.

The 2.2's when you do the snorkel removal tend to have a funky noise.

If you want to fix it, you could swap in the intake tract from one of the 1.8's. It basically connects the same minus the torque box and doesnt have the sound issue the 2.2 intake has.
