2.2 droning noise
I did the snorkusectomy a while back and at first didnt mind the droning noise. Now I cant stand it. Is there any way short of putting the silencer back in to remove this noise? I.E change out the tubing coming from the torque box with aluminum or steel tubing and making my own short ram. Right now i just have a conical filter at the end of the tube. I think i heard somewhere that replacing the tube will help. Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks

If anything a shorter piece of pipe i think would make the noise louder.
Perhaps you could stop by a local pick n pull and see if any wrecked WRX's or older model cars have the silencer so you can reattach it?

well i never threw it out. So i could easily reatach it. I just dont feel like going through the hassle of throwing it back up there as it wasnt easy to get out. If there is an easier way id like to go that direction but if not then ill just have to toss it back up there.
Thanks for your help

if you got a cone filter, that fender box isn't doing anything to your intake system other than robbing cold air. I would leave the box out, and replace the cone filter with the stock filter box. Just run a nice panel filter like a K&N or Perrin.
The cone filter is what is making that noise, it's the sound of engine induction.

Ok, so why don't you just get a straight intake from a k&n cone throught the MAF to the throttle body? I have a 2.2 and that 's the setup I have, and I get great flow, and the worst sound I hear is a little whistleing now and then. Is there -any- reason to keep the factory airbox/resonater above the TB?

Yea it does. Didnt bother me at first but now its really annoying. i Have a ganz flow ripoff i made for the phase 1 and i think the sound only got worse, but the improvement in power and throttle responce i got from it outweighs the reason to take it off for a quiet car. Plus ppl always ask whats under the hood. LOL Not alot of suby enthusiests around my area so they dont know that that sound is actually not supposed to be there.

If you want to fix it, you could swap in the intake tract from one of the 1.8's. It basically connects the same minus the torque box and doesnt have the sound issue the 2.2 intake has.

Hey Kost.
I always been puzzled on how the 1.8L intake was designed, It's got that MAP look but a MAF near the filter.
