1997 Wagon being a pain
Just wanted to post my progress with my newly purchased Wagon.. they guy i bought it from drove it out of his driveway and the car just stopped.. upon further inspection they found that the timing belt had came off.. i got it for cheap, and put a new belt on it... it runs, but kinda sputtery @ idle. it seems the timing is off but all the notches are lined up.. i took the belt off tonight and made sure it went on right.. it now runs a little better but i now have a CEL, dont know what for exactly.. anyway the idle is wierd.. kinda low so i raised it a bit.. ANY suggestions besides the obvious..? I think i just need to pick up a swap and get it over with..i just can afford... maybe i will sell it.. if anyone is interested let me know... and also thanx in advance for the advice..

Probably the code for misfires if it was running sputtery go to checkers or some other auto place that can pull codes for you (Checkers does it free). Some I-club members have code readers too.
Idle should be around 6-700rpm. As for the sputtering if the timing belt slipped off you might have bent valves that are sticking if its DOHC.
If not check intake vent tubes and other vacuum tubes for cracks or leaks.
Check and clean the MAF sensor, sparkplugs and change the plugwires if they are old.
