There's no such thing as the best this and that, only preference on brands and most of the time , what your tuners' opinion and preference on these things. Having said that i'll try to answer your questions regarding these things...
Depending on how much you're willing to spend, these could be done a number of ways,
Tight:
*Drop-in filter such as K&N, Perrin and such or non-oiled STi panel filter.
- the stock intake is as good as it will get for the stock turbo, it does what it's
supposed to.
* Intake silencer delete via snorkelectomy (hacking the silencer) or GP Moto.
- this is just for noise, if you want to hear the turbo sucking up air then get this.
* Shorty DP, Crucial racing, TXS or any other catless shorty.
- i mentioned Crucial specifically because they're divorced, meaning you don't
have to worry about creeping and to top it off it's ceramic coated for heat
retention in the pipes and at the same time help keep your IC from heatsoak,
not that it will eliminate the heat, it will still have it but not to add more to it.
this is catless, so you're deleting one of the 2 we have on the STi. The 2nd cat
is on the second part of the DP, as you may have noticed on the stocker, our
DP is sectioned into 2 parts, the second part has the o2 bung and the 2nd cat.
I don't know if you have emissions testing up there in BC, but if you don't, then
ur so lucky cuz that means you can go catless and therefore could use race
pipe setup such as the TXS. TXS mind you is a bellmouth, it's the biggest DP
that is available for our cars, it may or may not give you creep but IMHO, port
the snail only if you have creep otherwise don't worry about it yet unless ur
planning to mash it everytime.
* Engine management- Ecutek (tuner will custom tune your engine according to
your preference, mild to aggressive). Utec ( you the owner will do the tuning
and adjustments yourself). AP or Accessport ( you load a preset map according
to your mods), i'm not a fan of this just because the STi, each and everyone of
them behaves and responds differently to mods and gives out varied results.
i don't know why, but it does. ****NOTE: EM is a MUST, if you want to see and
feel the improvements of the mods you're doing even if this is the only thing
you will do for the car. adjusting the ECU from the stock setting is a very grati-
fying and will put a smile in your face right away.
- these mods will give you anywhere from 20 to at least 30 ponies on top of
stock and depending on the tune, if you get lucky, you'll be around 300 at the
wheel.
=== I'm only answering your question about intake and exhaust that's why im only mentioning those and nothing else.
No budget in mind and noisy at the same time:
*Intake: pick your poison, CAI or shot ram. CAI= APS, Injen and such, there are
a few hydrolocking issues already in the other forums board posted by a mech
for a dealership, it's up to you, NOT on my car.
Short ram= K&N Typhoon, Perrin, APS or if you want just the noise COBB,
A lot of people don't like these because they say it sucks hot/warm air from the
engine bay. SOLUTION, box off the section where the cone filter is, such as
Apex-i cold air box or if you want bling AVO CF cold air box, you have to retain
the stock air ramp and use the intake elbow to get better results.
then there's ARC induction box and also Blitz"s, i don't know if they're any diff-
erent from the shorty when it comes to performance
*TBE(turboback exhaust)= TXS, APS, Invidia and such, there's a lot more
brands out there but in the end it's up to what you want in how it sounds.
*Turbo= this is where most of the people who owns our kind of cars fall.
most of them want to have the biggest one they could shove in there not
really distinguishing between need and use and of course the consequences of
such big turbos. Look around and research man, do it with just your specific
case in mind, not because this STi guy has such and such HP and ET. I won't
give you advice on this one, cuz i'm still sitting on the fence watching all the
others win and fail. Hope i'd answered your ?.... PEACE!
Did'nt mention anything about UP because on the STi, it's already catless maybe further down the road when the heatshield welds are falling apart already. only then, COBB inconel UP is what i'll get if the need arises but who knows in 1 or 2 years there might be somebody else that will come out with a better one but right now that's the 1 for me if i NEED it.
