VF34 vs. Port and Polish

Well here is my delima, I want to get a Helix DP but need to get the stock turbo ported otherwise I will get boost creep. My question is: is it worth it to pay $200 to get the thing ported or should I just invest in a new turbo. I was looking at the VF34. However Ill have to wait a long time to save up for a new turbo. What do you all think?

from what i experience the port and polish didnt cure the problem i still had boost creep after the port and polish. I had a tbe before and after the port and polish. Spend the money towards a ebc that has made the most difference to me. Maybe the port and polish has helped a bit but not enough to cure boost creep.

Hey Justin

You didn't have any boost creep when you had my Port~n~Polish VF30 on your STI though.

thats cuz the vf30 has a stronger wastegate and too bad i had a boost leak at the tracks could of done 12's with that better turbo than the vf39.

I know boost creep doesnt completely go away. When you free up exhaust flow that is to be expected. I guess what I am wondering is if a port and polish will keep my car from getting so bad that it will hit boost and fuel cut. Or should I just save up for a new turbo?

save for a new turbo or buy and ebc those seem to be the best bet against boost creep and fuel cut.

Buy a different DP, get one that's not a bellmouth there are people running TBE on STI's and are not getting boost creep. Mach5WRX in the Hawaii forum has a PDE DP and has had a total of three different exhaust's one stock and two aftermarket and has a manual boost controller and has had no boost creep. But if you want to P&P your turbo contact this guy..

He said there is no wait they have turbo's sitting around so only down time is removel and installation..

This depends on how much power will be "enough" for you. The difference between a VF39 and a VF34 is pretty minimal, not worth $700. If you're wanting more than the power gains from a turboback and reflash, then go to at least a VF22 or something larger from the aftermarket like a GT28 or thereabouts. But, you can get up to 375 bhp pretty easily with the stock turbo + bolt-ons.
