Timing Belt Advice - Quote too high?

Hey Guys,

I have an 06 STi with 52k miles. I don't have the mileage to change the timing belt, but I have the years. I was just quoted $700 at the local Subaru dealership. That seems incredibly high. What do they normally go for?

Thanks.

What are they changing? I just paid $876.50 for my timing belt. I had other quotes at $870 and $950.

You want to just replace the belt and nothing else?

I had the Belts, pullys/tensioners, water pump, and coolant changed.

I know this a is dumb question just wanted to make that this price with parts correct? I know the water pump/belt kits run about $350. So that would make the labor cost about $500.

You should do the full timing belt service and the water pump and other things around that. And do it ALL in OEM parts. Call some of our local shops and go with the best quote. RBMS, GST,LIC,AA Mmotorworks,FW motor sports just to name a few there are many other good shops. It's better to do it right the first time, than to risk a motor with so little mileage because of 1-200 dollars. My .02

That's crazy. I've done the timing belt, all the components and the water pump on any Subaru (wrx, STi, N/A EJ18/22/25) I've ever owned as well as past customer vehicle and it's never taken more than an hour and a half. The NA SOHC motors take about 45 minutes. Shops love to charge "book rate" instead of actual time.
