streetable exhaust 06 wrx
i am looking at blitz hks apex catback.
yes i looked in the reviews, not what ia was looking for, but is there a huge difference in the blitz line like the race, touring versions, how is hks compared to them for an 06 wrx tr not an sti.
what i want to really know is which ones are best with the 2.5l engine, working wise(longevity) and performance, and yes i do not want it to sound like a weedwacker either. also i know the bov on you tube will not help me either, but it is funny.

bro,
i am at the same position your at right now.....really trying to find a decent exhaust that gives performance without calling the cops
keep in mind the straighter the exhaust the better but....noise levels do increase so you have to find a comfortable level of noise and performance that suits you
HKS is definatly the loudest of the bunch...plus i have heard horror stories about them rusting
As for Blitz i believe the diff between race and touring would be a resonator....all still a little bit on the louder side....but not like HKS
Apex i havent done too much research on....they do have a couple systems that keep the noise down and look similar to a stock system
I am actually considering a cobb catback or a invidia
the cobb system looks stock and has a great rumble tone
the invidia system looks great comes with or without resonator... i think they sound great too.....not too loud but good enough so the guy next to you knows you mean business. the only thing it hangs close to the rear bumper so longer exhaust hanger might be necessary
hope this helps
let me know on your decision....maybe it will help me out too

I have apex-i n1 on my 06 sti, the pipe before the tip is titanium powder coated to help with the sound a little, and it came with a removeable silencer not like you will wanna use it!! but the sound is awsome. for $ it was a good buy you can find them for 450.00-550.00$
its a complete bolt on system, used all stock hangers, but need new gaskets. when you get a down pipe it will sound mean as hell.

I would like to know what other people's opinions are also. I'm actually thinking about the RS-R ExMag. It looks stock, but is claimed to be the quietest performance exhaust on the market. Also, the can itself is black, leaving only the polished tip. But at the same time, I've heard that the black canned ExMag is discontinued, but it back as a full stainless version. The downside of the exhaust is the price, about $700 depending on who you go through.
I'm also looking into the GReddy SP2 and Tanabe Medallion Touring. Both have 80mm piping, so flow shouldn't be an issue, and since they're oval-canned, I think they're on the quieter side.

I recommend the apexi ws catback looks stock and bit louder. I have this on my sub and sounds clean, meaning it's not loud where it attract the cops. Also the greddy sp2 is pretty stockish.

I don't know where you're getting your information from, but it's off base. Out of the 3 exhausts u listed, the Hks, Blitz, and ApexI GT Spec, the Hks is the quietest of them all. 1st goes to the Blitz Nur Spec racing catback for being the loudest of the three. 2nd goes to the Apexi GT Spec. Put on a catless downpipe and the end results still remain the same, with the Blitz being the loudest.
As for the Hks rusting, the only one that could possibly rust is the Hi Power. The carbon-ti, which is pretty much the same exhaust, except it's full stainless steel, won't rust. I have the Hi Power on my car and there's not even a hint of rust on it (I live near the beach).

An 06 wrx or sti will sound pretty much exactly the same. There's barely any difference between the two as far as sound tone.
As for the previous model years (i.e the 2.0L engine), they're still sound roughly the same as the 2.5L in terms of sound.
No catback exhaust will sound like a weedwacker for the wrx, unless u put equal length headers on. They all pretty much sound the same as well, with minimal differences on tone. Some may sound deeper than others. Most just differ on how loud they are and the way they look.
Out of the 3 companies u listed, I would pick the HKS. It makes a tad more power out of the three (though the difference is pretty much negligable). If you're worried about rust like the other guy thinks, you can get the carbon-ti version, but costs roughly $200 extra. Not worth the extra money IMO for a catback since the regular Hi Power does just fine.

When I had my 02 WRX I ran the Apexi N1 exhaust w/ a catless downpipe and it wasn't too loud but the build quality of the Apex N1 was crap, the two hangers on the mufflers were too short so only one side could be supported which in return led to the muffler resting on the bottom of my bumper as well as vibrating off my rear diff. Apexi and their concern for build quality has been diminshed by their concern for "quantity" in recent years since they have become Japans leading performance group. On my 04 STi I have a one piece JIC-Magic cat back 505 SS exhaust system painted black and it looks bad ***, it has an average sized can with a perfect angle on it, hooked up to a catless Helix V3 downpipe. It' sounds burley as hell but not super loud like the APS systems or others.
