Angry Strange Noise.

On friday i was driving in my sti on was on 5th gear doing about 50 or so dont remember, i was coming up on some railroad tracks and i could hear the sound of the train getting close so i decided to drop it back to 4th just in case so i wont get stuck and wait 30 mins for the train to pass. well the idiot that i am i accidently put it in 2nd gear. worst thing i could have done, my car rev's all the way to 7000 hits the rev limiter felt like i hit a wall or something and the worst part about this. right after that happend i heard something like metal fall onto the floor outside. i stopped to see if i could find what broke off or whatever, but it was too dark and couldnt see anything. Now i hear a weird noise coming from the drivers side. it only happens when im on the gas and in gear. When i press on the gas i can hear it,its a noise kinda like when the turbo starts to spool up, but once i let go of the gas i hear it like starting to desend. it doesnt make the noise at idle only WOT and in gear. i know for a fact its not the turbo spooling up or anything. the noise was not there before this happend. its kinda like a fluttering nosie or air.its a weird noise thats hard to describe. i also can hear a clicking noise coming from my engine, my friends say its always done that, but i dont think it has. now im really pissed at myself and worried...

My mods are dp and exhaust. ive also noticed alot of backfiring when reving just between 2000 and 3000

has anyone been sucha an idiot like me to where this has happend to them or anything such event?.

Any Feedback would be awesome.

The tach is not very accurate down that low so it may just be a perception issue. My STi does the drop and come back up thing at times and I have always written it off as anomaly.

As for your opening statements, you should be okay. The rev limiter is there to protect the engine, which it did. The synchros are there to protect the tranny, and sicne you made it into 2nd without trouble, they seem to have done their job as well.

You may just be overly sensitive to sounds after your mis-shift. The ticking from the engine bay is normal.

Keep us posted.
