STI/RS gasket compatability 500hp sohc!
Hey...
I have a franenstein build subaru (Ej257 sti block w/ej251 heads).
I am completely rebuilding the motor with forged internals and am looking to buy a gasket set for my build.
Can I buy a 2.5rs EJ251 gasket set and use it on my ej257 sti block?
Does the RS block and STI block share the same shortblock gaskets? Or are they completely different.
At $200+ a gasaket set, I rather not buy 2.
Thanks
Ben

Man, this site has fallen off the map this last year... Not a single reply in nearly two weeks of the topic being posted?? Yes, the RS head gaskets will work but you will retain a higher compression ratio due to the gaskets not being really that thick thus leading to possible piston failure. I doubt STi head gaskets will work on the SOHC head but if they do, the STi gaskets are far more desirable because it allows you to have a lower compression ratio which means more boost!!! If that is what you want of course...To answer your last question, it looks like you will have to buy both sets of gaskets if you plan on breaking down the whole motor.
