Hi i got a new 06 subaru impreza sedan i would like to know a couple of things.....
1.anyone raise boost and to what psi(but being on the safe saide)
2.do any of the 04+ parts work for the 06 meaning engine wise

I believe that this has been covered before, but I am almost 100% sure that they will all fit. I have an 06 and I have the Injen CAI, which makes the spool louder, and the HKS SSQ. I just had to twist the blow off around for it to fit past the fuel rails.
Hey 1st... Hate to drop an essay on you, but these things are vital for you to AT LEAST know, you don't have to follow what I write, but i'll feel better knowing that I at least informed you...
Being your first subaru, I would do an extensive search on any and all products you wish to purchase for your car... (The REVIEWS section can be very useful) Unfortunately for us coming from Fords, or Hondas, or whatever else... We are used to the I/H/E route to extract a good amount of power out of our engines... Since I guess I'm the first to tell you this... Youre dealing with a completely different machine...
Forget power shifts, forget drop-clutch take offs, forget colder spark plugs, headers, and cold air intake systems..
Congratulations on purchasing an underrated monster, I feel you should be advised against the following...
1 - CAI (Cold Air Intakes) - Don't do it. Aftermarket intakes have been known to hurt, if anything, the performance on WRX's, although a few brands don't hurt the performance, many do... Truth is, these cars are extremely sensitive and Subaru has already spent plenty of money on R&D to make the most efficient intake for the car... Changing it out proves to be wasteful and useless, if not damaging...
You want sound? Heres a safer route... In fact, it may be good for a pony or so... but that can be debated. Inside the passenger side fenderwell is a large plastic intake housing known as the snorkus... Pop your hood... notice up front the long thin induction opening? follow it back and notice how it enters the fenderwell and exits just behind it... The snorkus is in there... It's designed to act as a silencer for the intake as well as house any water the Ram Induction may pick up... You being in palmdale, wont have any issues with rain, so many people "hack the silencer" you can search under "Snorkus" or "Snorkelectomy" and learn how you can cut the bottom end off and patch it up... A BETTER option is the GPMoto Intake Elbow... This is kind of a professionally done snorkelectomy... Its just a pipe that replaces the snorkus and fits with the factory intake perfectly... (about 40-50 bucks) With this, youll notice more of a spool up sound, also youll hear some feedback from the factory Bypass Valve... It gives a more audible "woosh" under boost. With some research under your belt youll find the only educated people who replace their intakes out for aftermarket systems are those who needed to relocate due to a front mount intercooler, or those running over 450 horsepower...
2 - Avoid BOVs if you could... I understand, its a turbo and you want that mean blow off sound... I cannot stress how many times this has been covered... The Stock BPV is good for up to at least 20 pounds of boost... stock runs somewhere between 14.5-16, I don't recall at the moment... BOV's with Subies come at a HUGE expense, not including their pricetag... Rough Idles, Compressor Surge, Lag, Leaking Plates, and worst of all Running Rich... Our Air sensors assume the air is being plumbed back, where really youre dumping it into the atmosphere... guess what? the Air/Fuel ratio doesnt change, therefore, less air + more fuel = Too much fuel... aka Running Rich (terrible gas mileage/ black soot on the underside of your rear bumper/etc) If you MUST have the sound, consider 50/50 alternatives... One of the best hybrid blow off valves in my opinion is the Worx Tuning Dual Stage BOV.... Basically plumbs back under low boost... and once you reach an excessive boost level (generally 3000-3500rpm), it will dump the rest into the atmosphere giving you that "woosh"! Still will run slightly rich between shifts, but hey... it's unavoidable.. but the Worx unit is, in my opinion, the safest alternative to NOT getting one... I personally can think of better ways to spend 250-300 bucks... I say you try the "Intake Silencer Removal" and see what you think of the sound then... if your neighbors dog must hear you vent, then yeah.. get a 50/50 valve.
3 - Do NOT get a Manual/Electronic Boost Controller, or tinker with the boost... Again, these vehicles are super-sensitive... There are a myriad of tuner choices out there, messing with boost via boost controller can cause issues with CL/OL fuel delays... among other issues... Let someone who has a proven ECU map do the boost tinkering... Best thing is to locate a local tuner who knows and has experience tuning WRXs.. Prefer a more set it and forget it option? I know I do... Look @ Cobbs Access Port... Its basically an ECU flashing device that reflashes your ECU with different performance maps, allows you to switch back and forth between maps, and diagnose/delete engine codes, as well as revert back to stock... costs about 650.00... STAGE I is for stock vehicles, it'll give you a very minimal increase in horsepower (since the stock 06 is rather maxed out with its barely decent turbocharger), and a decent increase in torque... But this map will smooth out your operation, give you peaks at lower rpm, and give your car a much more ALIVE feel... Next is STAGE II, all you do is switch maps to Stage II once you buy a Downpipe/Catback Combo aka Turboback Exhaust.. Then youre looking at a huge increase in both horsepower and torque... numbers that will have you running just barely past STIs.. all this for 1500-2000 dollars... There are other tuner options out there.. But I like Cobb because of their reliability, customer support and product quality... Ask around, you wont be disappointed in them.
Anyway hope most of this has been useful for you and a bit of an enlightening experience... to be honest, I wish someone had just told me these things flat out when I first walked into the world of Subaru's, but they didnt... I got responses telling me to "SEARCH"... Well, there are just some things you cant just think to search for... I've spent 2 years on this forum "searching", reading, learning and utilizing... You'll find the people here to be mostly helpful with some wisecracks here and there (we all have our days
) But this is a closely wound community of Subie fanatics truly out to help one another... It sure beats the other forum choices out there
So take what you will, and I wish you a happy modding experience with your WRX... enjoy it, and above all, be safe!
Any other questions, feel free to ask, anyone would be willing to help!

Glad to hear that! It's always good to be openminded about new things and learn what you can... But yeah, honestly, thats the safest route unless you have huge plans for upgrades in mind... you'll find lots of Stage 2 owners about the forum who happen to be very happy with their power level and reliability... Also, I cannot stress enough the REVIEWS section of this forum... where others have purchased products, have had a personal experience with them, and have been kind enough to take their time and give us a rundown of their experience (but keep a logical open mind, sometimes people don't review a product unless they are unhappy with it, many people will just install it, be satisfied and not leave a review)... Welcome!

Thanks for the kind words! It's nice to see that things arent overlooked and/or taken for granted around here. I envy all of you admin's and senior users who already know most of your stuff, but still stick it out to help those of us who need information. It is truly appreciated... Nice of you guys to surprise me with a VIP upgrade, honestly wasn't expecting that... Thanks Again for keeping this a friendly/informative place

Amen brother! + 1 for what Boost said!
Alright, so talk to me for a second boost, or anyone. I am new myself. I have an 06 STI. I already, as I stated before, have a CAI and HKS SSQ. I guess I went the wrong way, from what I have read. I did see an increase in acceleration though, when I first did it. Now, some days, I will admit, (about 6 or 7, maybe, out of the month, the car feels a little slower), and Ithink this is what everyone is talking about, right? An aftermarket CAI is not as consistent. I understand the BOV situation completly. I still want it, lol. But can't I change the air/fuel ratio with engine management? I'm not sure if this can be done with the cobb accesport, but can it be if I take it to someone who knows how to tune subies? With the cobb, can I turn the boost up? I guess, in reality, I would like to be on the verge of the 11's or low low 12's, keeping this though as still my daily driver. I have done a decent amount of research. And I think, but PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong, the only way to do this is buy some sort of Turbo, Fuel, Exhaust, and ECU upgrade. Is this true? Do you have to touch the turbo and sh**?
I looked at the Vishnu "370", or supposedly. They say you can hit 370 flywheel hp with there 3" Turbo-back, still catted, exhaust, along with there ecu. It would seem then, that this amount of hp would definitly put you around the middle 12's, right? I wish I knew alot more than I do about these cars. I have loved them for along time, and I finally have mine.
But this is the only way to learn, right? Read and ask questions. I'm still dumbfounded about the numbers this RS is putting down.

Sorry about the length of my question, you guys have all been helpful. I totally agree with boost about this forum. You guys are all awesome. Thanks in advance.

Cobb is not the only way to go, Ecutek, Utec, Cobb AP are all viable options that in the hands of a solid tuner can really do some powerful modification to your engine maps to yield safe increases. I won't go into each - I would suggest doing a search in the engine management forum for each and comparing. They all do the same fundamental things to your ingnition, timing and fuel maps but some have additional features you may or may not want.
Finally, about your Vishnu question. I am glad that you specificly noted the *crank* hp numbers. I think that they are reporting good numbers from their packages but may be on the slighly high side. Most numbers you will see come from dynos which are nitoriously inaccurate. (You wouldn't think they would be inaccurate... hell its a simple enough equation *F=ma* combinded with your torque calculation using the diamater and mass of the drums which are rolling) anyway, they are inacurate - its difficult to get the same dyno to show the same numbers from one run to the next much less comparing two dynos of different typs.
I would suggest calling your local tuner. Where are you located? People on the forum can suggest reputible tuners in your area. They can suggest what they prefer to work on and then check back here with their suggestions. Follow our recomendations compared to their recomendations and then educate yourself on all of them - then make a choice. Vishnu isn't bad, I just think its a bit lazy to setting for a package.
Hope that helps.
^^^ what dep said...
Just wanted to add and reinforce that if you are looking to get a custom tune, that will ultimately yield the most efficient hp out of your car... And one BRAND is not necessarily better than the other... the best way to look at this is choose a local tuner you trust and go with the BRAND they use... because ultimately THEY are the one tuning your car, and just because you purchase superior BRAND Z doesnt mean they will be able to do the best job with it, because they work mostly with BRAND X...
If youre more the set it, forget it type... COBB is one of the best options out there and the most versatile... custom tuning is also available... And about VISHNU, their performance is proven in numbers, but again what Dep said regarding consistency on dynos, its truly difficult to achieve, you may be looking at a BEST out of 20 runs... who knows? I dunno... I hate to suggest one over the other, but VISHNU is not my personal favorite.. business ethics wise... COBB is more affordable and their customer service is excellent... Some say so is Vishnus, but eh.... personal choice again... Also... Vishnu is rather pricey for what you really can bundle up yourself with your own selection of parts then combine with a COBB AP!
About the question regarding compensating for the BOV... cant be done with tuning very effectively... the rich effect is happening between shifts... theres really no way to change that... its still a small negative effect which can cause problems down the line... Try getting a 50/50 bov, like a WORX... those arent as bad...
But in the meanwhile, the best thing to do is replace your stock air intake system, get a GPMOTO intake elbow and do the snorkus delete... replacing the panel filter has as well been a debateable issue... Oh and if u get custom tuning, CERTAIN brand CAI's CAN provide useful, because the tuner will be able to max out the gains... but still an area I wouldnt mess with personally... until youre going for huge power applications...
And regarding your goals, im not sure exactly what it would take to run 11s, but best of luck to you on your modding! This being your daily driver... remember, your first priority is SAFETY/RELIABILITY... Not running 11s... How many lights do you drag race in a day? Cmon now...

If you go into the main Forum page, scroll down, you will find South-East... Florida would be in there.. try posting in there... or look in the Reviews section for shops in the area..
ok i have another question what is the diffrence between the 06 sti and regular impreza engine wise? i know the interior and exterior diffrences and tranny 6 speed to 5 speed but engine wise is it really worth spending the extra 7 or 8 grand more for the sti is it something the sti has that cant be done with the impreza or is there something i missing i know the turbo and maifold on the sti are bigger so if i change them am i gonna have a sti motor? plz someone clearify for me i know some small diffrences but are there any major one i should consider?
I'm not certain, but its been written that the STI has stronger internals, not sure EXACTLY what parts... The 06 WRXs engine is more closely related to the Forester XT component-wise.. Also, the STI has a larger intercooler... Don't forget the DCCD, etc...
Basically what you want right now is a Cobb Stage 2 setup.. that will run you just past an STI speed wise... you wont get the I/C Spray(though people have fabricated their own systems, you can search it), you can't toy with the differential, cant row into a 6th gear, etc etc... but what you WILL get is a quieter ride, and if you went with a limited, you get leather and moonroof... STIs dont have those...(they also lack the insulation)
The differences are definitely there, but if speed is your main concern, just upgrade to a stage 2 with the mods i suggested, and you will be more than satisfied... if you crave changing the turbo, give Cobb a little time, they are working on alternate turbo setups for the 06s, im sure they will release those maps soon enough... in the meantime enjoy the stage 2 power! Oh, and when looking into new turbos ask yourself how important speed is to you... you may be sacraficing more lag for an increase in top end power that you wont be using 90% of the time... make sure you do your research!
