need help, car dies...

Hey guys, thanks in advance for any help.
I drive an 06 WRX TR with 86k miles. In california, weather has been warm
(75-95) for a few months.
Car has VF39, TBE, walbro 225 fuel pump, cobb ap, few other mods....
Sunday i installed an STI cluster ( i am 99 percent sure this isnt the problem, the timing is just strange) everything worked fine, went for a drive everything was normal.
Drove monday about 30 miles no issues.
on Tuesday night, my stereo shut off during a drive... this was odd, has never happened. i shut the car off as i had plans and thought it was just a stereo problem...
I go to start the car, starts a little slow, fuel pump doesnt sound 100 percent... but it starts, i drive home, car is acting funny... headlights start going on and off and on and off... this is weird... dont know why. ABS light on the cluster (shoudlnt turn on because the polarity is the same, 05 sti cluster to 06 wrx) turns on... get the car on my street, power starts dieing... car starts idleing funny, shut it off... dont know why this happened. Dont drive car, get a new battery, old one was from 09 so i figured that was the problem. Got a new optima red top, put it in on thursday night. Boom, car fires up, no problems. Go to school no problems, drove over town to get lunch, no problems. Drive to Sacramento, about 20 miles, for an MRI. Get in car after, starts fine... drive back, traffic. I get off at hazel, in traffic. Stereo dies. Oh ****... common... Car starts dieing again. Idle drops i try reving to keep her alive. Dies, get it off the road. Tow to my house... wtf. Alternator problem? pull alternator, test it at AutoZone... they say "yup thats in perfect condition."
My questions for you guys
1. Could this be from the cluster swap (i cut wire b9 so the buzzing went off, and trimmed the left green connector, A. so it would fit.) i think not.... but.... idk...
2. has anyone ever had this and could tell me what it is? this is annoying the hell out of me! my guess is the alternator wire from the battery...
3. is autozone a trusting place?
4. Any guesses as to what this could be?

Again thanks in advance... i appreciate it. Any other info needed please ask.

Put your OEM cluster back in. Drive it for a few days and see what happens.

Could that be the issue? Don't feel like driving the car around and having it die on me again...

Ya never know, it could be the issue. And since it is a pretty simple/cheap potential solution.. why not.

I may check for a leech first as my alternator is out and battery is unplugged, though that only takes about 5 seconds...
Could it be the wire to the alternator is shot? How would I check that?

I'll post what I find out so anyone in the future can use this

Any other shop recommendations that are local?
Would you go to Subaru dealership?

test the alternator:

How to Check an Alternator: 9 Steps - wikiHow

sounds like its not charging the battery. worth a shot before bringing it in and paying an arm and a leg just to inform what you already know.

Yeah.
This happened with the old battery once too. I figured the battery just died on me so I pulled it and saw it was from 09. Changed it, everything was good for a day. Then boom. Happens again...

I've heard of crazier things happening haha.

I have a multimeter I can get my hands on I'll let you know if it was that or not.
If he tells me it's perfect and it's not I'm gonna call and yell...
